Uncle Tom has to be one of the lamest insults there is. Often the person is being disparaged because:

1. They broadly treat others with respect and socialize with whites (how outrageous!)

and/or because

2. They are free thinkers who don't reflexively accept racial beliefs that are axiomatic within local black communities. This could be on everything from views about the natures of other races to social policies like affirmative action.

If you could shift the pounds by working your mouth, Tyson could make light-heavyweight

He seems desperate to stay relevant while he's not fighting and has to say ever more outrageous stuff to keep attention on him.

Sometimes I think just STFU and get back in shape but Fury is Fury and he won't ever change. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on the individual point of view.

For reference (I have to admit that I'd lol if Fury came out with the Nigerian flag):

Fury, more the Gypsy king Ali than his namesake, has an instinctive knack for sensing and attacking his opponents weak spots. Especially psychological ones. Its amazing how little retaliation he has to face in his verbal sparring.

However with AJ it might backfire in that Joshua is almost a bit too laid back and this might just motivate him to optimum focus.

Fury is very self confident to insult a beast like Joshua with such a provocative term. either he wants to self destruct or he really believes Joshua is a big stiff. This fight has to happen.

I'm surprised Fury is educated enough to know the term.

If you have a tattoo of Africa on your arm, you're probably not an Uncle Tom.

If you are homophobe you are probably racist too. Bigot is a bigot.

Fury is doing the Ali thing... building the stories... building the gate... talking the trash... being inventive with his invective... making everyone hate him.

If Fury had any sense of self worth or ambition he would shelve the psychiatrist... shelve the rhetoric... shelve the pizza and beer... train his ass off... and just use his raw talent to achieve something... Instead he has to go around weighing 350 and talking sh!t... He'll leave a legacy like Buster Douglas except more people will hate him... Douglas decided he wanted to fight for once in his life---and apparently so did Fury... Now his work is done I guess.

Don't take Fury seriously. He's building a fight.

Joshua is the 'good guy' (even though he has a criminal background) whereas Fury is the 'bad guy'. Mayweather perfected this & earnt many millions of dollars despite being in dull after dull fight over many years,

I like both fighters. I could lean towards Joshua because he's London based or I could lean towards Fury because he's Irish Gypsy (like half my family) but I just want the best fights && may the best man win.

Fury is on the Ali level of trash talk and provocative insults and sparking political religious controversy. If he was black he would be ten times more popular and lionized by the media.

If I was AJ I'd just respond back with. "People call me champ, what do they call you? Fatass?"

Beg to differ. To compare Fury to a legendary trash-talker like Ali is laughable. Fury is a clown and a 2nd-rate trash-talker. If he cant do any better than throwing a kneejerk cliche like "Uncle Tom" at Joshua he needs to take lessons in trash talk from someone who can.

I doubt he even understands the history of the term "Uncle Tom."

Why is he an Uncle Tom? Is it because he carries himself well and behaves in public. Truth is that Fury is mad jelous about AJ's popularity.

AJ couldn't care less. tyson fury will have
another title shot not before a very long
time and trash talking him into one won't
work. he is in the shape of an average
football fan and nobody takes him seriously.

plus, antony joshua is british and i doubt
he takes a reference to north american
slavery very seriously.

fury is pretty delusional if he thinks he is
still relevant at this point.

I doubt he even understands the history of the term "Uncle Tom."
- Not to necessarily to pick Coasty out of a weak crowd here, but I doubt half or more on these forums know that Uncle Tom was a revered hero of the Harriet Beecher Stow novel that was the 2nd most sold book in the 19th century next to the Bible.

How it became a black on black slur speaks to the nature of the post slavery culture after an accomplished, pious, white, female abolitionist, Stowe, dared to address fundamental race questions in a way that many say led to the Civil War that freed the slaves.

Even into the 20th century I had to endure uncounted dozens of Uncle Tom's Cabin plays in public schooling that I hated, because as it turned, they were lukewarm pablum compared to the book which is quite compelling. Stowe ticked all the boxes including the dreaded Simon Legree who is one of the all time villainous characters in literature. Even saw a proto Jesse Jackson in the making!

Any former slave and their heirs being dragged to the plays wouldn't like seeing themselves be whipped and abused. Tom was seen as a house n****** to be hated which would've certainly appalled Stowe who could no more fathom today's racial strata than today's people would know about her culture. Ironic how it was Uncle Tom that allowed Americans see a generous humanity of black folks who were then seen as no more than an expensive notch above a prize mule.

She may have molded Uncle Tom around the slave in the portrait painted with George Washington and his family that some hippy dippy chick here derides for inheriting the English slavery of his day, I kid you not. That slave obviously ran the household and became a beloved adopted member of the Washington family like Uncle Tom. Had Washington freed his inherited slaves, most would have starved as who would hire them when the larger white culture was barely making it in this forlorn ravaged English outpost only serving as tax revenues for King George?

Doubt the Tom term means much to Joshua who looks too laid back to be bothered with cheap insults when there are bigger fish to fry like fatted Fury. And, yeah, Fury with a gift for nonstop gibberish like Ali and played the Uncle Tom card just like Ali. Let it go lassies. Ali could be mean as a snake and thick as a brick in racial matters that no amount of holy man of the Nation of Islam hogwash can spitshine.
