How did this fight go until the TKO? How competitive was it? i never saw it and have always wondered about it since Willie got the best of him the first time around.
Bits and pieces of that fight were talked about by Goody Petronelli in an interview I read of his some time ago. The fight was in Boston Garden , Marvin stopped him in the 12th round with a right uppercut-straight left combination. Its not hard picturing Hagler , who threw beautiful punches , landing a combination like that. Monroes trainers for that fight were George Benton and Eddie Futch. According to Petronelli, they came to Marvins dressing room after the fight and complimented Marvin and the Petronellis . They told them that every time they told Willie to do something , Marvin countered with something else. Sounds as though Marvin put on quite a performance. The 70s Philly middleweight scene was a great time in Boxing history and Marvins involement in it ( even though he fought out of Brockton Mass. ) was one of the reasons he is an all time great.
