Is Tyson Fury the most skillful active HW ?

Post by ValMar »

Considering skills only, Tyson Fury (healthy/fit/in shape version) is #1 HW. I have not said that he is the best, but he is the most skillful HW nowadays. I know that there are a lot of TF's haters here, on this forum, but after rewatching at least ten fights, I am convinced that I am right.
What do you think ?

I have written : healthy, fit, in shape version.

No.

For one thing he's not active, even if he was the answer would be no.

He isn't active or particularly skilled. He is funny and tough.

Who would people rate above him in skill?

Not that the division is a benchmark, but I'd rate Wlad, Ortiz & Joshua ahead of him.

As I know he announced that he would be back by the end of this year, and he is still very young. So, I consider him active fighter.
Who is the more skillful HW, right now ?

Lots of the smaller Heavyweights are more skilled than him, they might not be able to overcome his size advantages if they were to fight him though. Joshua might not be as skilled defensively, but he'd knock him out anyway.

Ortiz with his amateur pedigree knows how to box better than Fury I'm sure.

He has announced several comeback dates, he will not fight this year, if he ever fights again.

Yeah, I couldn't be bothered to crank out a long list. He's slightly more skilled than Wilder. I'll give him that.

Well then your definition of active fighter sucks. He hasn't fought in almost 2 years and has nothing officially scheduled. Even if he schedules something, until he steps back in the ring again he's not active and he's not ranked.

Considering Wilder looks like a flailing teenage girl on stilts a lot of the time I'll agree.

I don't agree on all those. AJ, for instance, is a much bigger puncher, but when it comes to things like lateral movement, use of angles, and demonstrated ability to switch hit, I'd rate Fury higher. I think he's shown a better jab too.

Like when he outjabbed Wlad and clowned Chisora pretty much just using southpaw jabs. When has AJ shown a better jab? Or at least one just as good?

I did not write : stronger or more powerful. Of course, Joshua, Wlad and Ortiz are stronger and more powerful than TF, Wilder too......

I guess for me, his greatest moment he looked like shit to me. The gaping holes in his defense were glaring against Wlad. He's huge, ballsy and he does move well for his size.

He didn't out anything Wlad. He won a staring contest against Wlad. If you're pointing to that fight as a time he showed "great skill" I'm not even taking it seriously because he showed no skill whatsoever in that fight as far as I'm concerned. He just happened to be the guy in the ring that night. Tyson Fury barely did anything, Wladimir did less. They both looked like absolute sh*t.

Everybody would beat Chisora.

In his last three fights Wlad, Chisora, and Hammer hardly touched him. AJ was hurt and hit with big shots by Whyte and Wlad.

Ah right, the nonsensical 'Wlad fight doesn't count'. It can be a lot more difficult to set yourself to punch when your opponent is constantly moving, has a good sense of range, and is putting jabs in your face when you get close. Had Fury just ambled straight at Wlad like AJ did, I think it would've played out differently.

Chisora is obviously not top-tier, but I think he'd give a lot of top guys more problems than he gave Fury in the rematch, especially if those guys were only throwing southpaw jabs like Fury was.

If TF was capable to defeat the HW decade's ruler, doing nothing - then there is something very strange.............
