Do any of you have, or know the whereabouts of, that long Q&A interview with Sir Glyn that used to be on the internet years ago? Think it might have been the only substantial one he ever did. It was quite in depth and he related the whole unlikely saga of his life and the early days of BM in that droll Glyn style. I kept meaning to sit down and read it again but now I can't find it anywhere!

Managed to find this one, not sure if it's the one you're after?

Bloody hell, never heard this. Thanks mate! The specific one I'm referring to was in text form, however, I'm going to enjoy this one now anyway.

Coming up on three years since he died. Can't believe it.

I realise listening to this that this is in fact the audio version of the interview I read, so thank you very much.

Interestingly, he says that he's 54, which means this is him speaking very close to the end. He sounds dismayed by the state of things. The decline of style and grammar, the transferral of readership to the internet, the shocking standard of writing on it. He also says that people typically retire at 65, and he'll be lucky if BM is still in business by then, and, portentously, that he intends to go down writing. His voice sounds unsteady throughout, as if he's on edge - or ill. A morbid interview, although it won't have seemed it at the time. Like all his BM editorials, a great and insightful little time capsule.

An icon of boxing journalism and someone who I considered a friend.

Glyn really was a giant of a man.

His passion for that magazine was like a love I've never seen before. He truly idolised his work.

The bulk of our chats was via email but Glyn could talk. He gave me so many opportunities at Boxing Monthly and would even compliment my work that went in Boxing News. I think about him often and he's the first person I think of when a calamity occurs in boxing, which is almost daily these days.

Glad there's so much love out there for him and maybe the guys at BM can somehow put more of his archived work out on their website.

People deserve to see just how brilliant he was.

Must admit I got a bit emotional listening to some of that. Does seem strange to listen him talking about 'going down writing'. RIP Glyn.

Glyn was a good man, he’d look at my online stuff before it went out at the time of the contracts palaver to make sure it was OK to use. Sometimes we’d be going over stuff late on a Friday night before he’d fire off a ‘Time to release this one’ email. He didn’t have to do that, but his passion for that side of the business end of things was endless, even though it grated with him a lot of the time.

We had a clear the air talk a few weeks before his death, he’d not been using my stuff and we had a long talk about that. He was always ruthless in his feedback, I recent found out that it was because he felt there was an extra 10% lurking being my my natural laziness and he was keen to get that out of me. Different teachers teach in different ways, I certainly needed the stick approach at that time.

It is pretty impressive when you consider that he was largely self-taught. He still pops up when researching certain fighters as he did some newspaper stuff for The Independent and others. His article December 1999 about Naseem Hamed in The Sunday Herald nails a number of key points and is well worth another look.

The voice of british boxing and always will be. Look at what he built and his legacy....he was never one to show off his credentials or scream in a fat exploding suit breaking every pane of glass with his voice.....just a low key classy gentleman who got on with everyone and ran a quality publication
