Marcus Morrison
Marcus Morrison
Two losses in a row now, after a points defeat to Tyan Booth (having his second fight in three years) last night over four.
End of the road for this kid?
Seen him a few times at the various Matchroom shows in Manchester over the years and never really rated him, but thought he was better than this.

Re: Marcus Morrison
I thought he didn't want it v Welborn when the going got tough.
He's been exposed 1st time he stepped up and then on comeback- he'll be lucky to be on at 5.30pm on the shows now if he's even still with Matchroom.
Always looked very one dimensional - most of JG fighters are exposed the minute they step up from British/Euro level.

Re: Marcus Morrison
Can't see him staying with MR, and can't really see why anyone other than a local promoter would want to pick him up.

He had some shitty WBWhatever Intercontinental Super Duper Silver Junior Interim Title or something at one point.Naandrew wrote:He didn't even get to English level3132DW wrote:I thought he didn't want it v Welborn when the going got tough.

Hopefully a cautionary tale for those who think they can bypass English/British level cos they bashed up a few Latvians.

Re: Marcus Morrison
I was pretty surprised at the Welborn loss, he was took to town that night and dragged deep, the loss to Booth has shocked me still
Re: Marcus Morrison
I've slagged Joe Gallagher off in this forum for years... But some fighters have attributes to suit his style which is decent inside work and body punching.
It was crystal clear after the Welborn fight Morrison is not an inside fighter. I said this at the time that it was perfect time to change trainers. Because at Morrisons age he could go away for a year under a new trainer adjust then step up again.
Plus Gallagher was disgraceful in not pulling him out in that fight exactly what Tony Bellew had said.

Re: Marcus Morrison
There was easier fights for him than Booth..... he can be a nightmare
Re: Marcus Morrison
A 4 rounder is a big risk. Seems a strange move to put him in one after a loss.
Re: Marcus Morrison
Yeah 11-11-5 is better than average journeyman especially over shortened 4 round fight as well - seemed strange choice.Switch hitter wrote:There was easier fights for him than Booth..... he can be a nightmare

Tesco Joe is having a 'mare at the moment. I'm surprised the exodus hasn't begun.

Definitely,I'd have expected him to comeback over 6-8 rounds, over 4 anyone who is tough and game can get the win and given morrison's profile it's a big scalp for anyone.
Re: Marcus Morrison
There's certainly easier options than Booth, but anyone who's supposed to be anything should be coming through that.
Re: Marcus Morrison
Welborn if you're not completely at it is a difficult opponent for an aspiring talent. Tough, rough, keeps coming, works hard.
4 rounder I agree with general consensus is a bad call. Makes it more of a toss up you can't afford a bad round

Re: Marcus Morrison
Yep agree with others a 4-rounder against a decent 'journeyman' like Tyan Booth is a tricky comeback when you've just had your first confidence smashing loss. Especially at Rollerworld in Derby. It's like something out of an Alan Partridge sketch. Poor matchmaking though for the kid, but yeh looks like he needs to go away for a bit and just totally rebuild hmself as a fighter and ask himself how much he really wants it.
Re: Marcus Morrison
Welborn was brought in to get smashed to bits though, typical matchroom matchmaking. Bring a fringe guy up from the weight below.Ossyrules wrote:Welborn if you're not completely at it is a difficult opponent for an aspiring talent. Tough, rough, keeps coming, works hard.

I was in good seats for that fight. Gave Welborn loads of credit at the time on the forum massive size advantage to Morrison and victor Laughlin should have stopped it in three different occasions in my opinion.
Re: Marcus Morrison
Yep, my first thought was that a 4 rounder against Booth, a very tall and awkward fighter who has pulled multiple upsets, wasn't a judicious move. Have a poor first round and then you can't afford to lose another unless there is a KD or deduction.
Over that distance they should've gone with someone who loses more reliably.

Some of the comments on this thread are a joke and are why domestic boxing is in the state it's in - even low level domestic boxers avoiding each other under the daydream that they are much better than they are.
Booths previous win was 8 years ago!
If a boxer has ambition and talent then they should be able to beat somebody of this level easily.

Re: Marcus Morrison
Morrison's comeback opponent and the number of rounds scheduled are different issues than someone being perpetually steered clear of good opposition.
A month earlier Booth had drawn with a 10-0 opponent, which suggests that he still had it as someone who could fornicate up the plan. Four rounds is nothing and all it takes is a poor opener (maybe the guy who was stopped last time out starts a bit hesitant) to dig someone in a hole.

Morrison got to 14-0 and only faced 3 opponents who had won more than they lost.crusader wrote:Morrison facing a different opponent in a comeback 4 rounder is a very different issue from someone being perpetually steered clear of good opposition.
Is this what you mean by being steered clear of good opposition?
Re: Marcus Morrison
I do think he's been matched soft, which isn't at odds with thinking that Booth over 4 rounds wasn't a smart choice in his comeback fight. As I said, all is takes is a hesitant opener from the guy beaten up last time out, and he's in a hole.

Re: Marcus Morrison
I was thinking exactly the same. Moan that people knocking over journeymen is bad for boxing then moan when someone (who hasn't won in 8 years) is too difficult (even with allegedly the best uk trainer in his corner)bripez wrote:Some of the comments on this thread are a joke and are why domestic boxing is in the state it's in - even low level domestic boxers avoiding each other under the daydream that they are much better than they are.
