Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
He has balls to make great fights and also it seems that he has good relationships with his stars like Anthony Joshua. They can have both fun together and another stuff
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
I don't ever give any thought to who's the most likable, but he's certainly one of the very best at the moment. Top cards consistently from Eddie.
I'd be lying if I told you there's definitely somebody I think is a better promoter than him right now.

He's the best.
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
He's the best because he actually cares about the fighters on both sides of the deals he puts together... He wants to be fair to both sides.

+1 he doesn't scam, if someone says no to him, it's usually because that boxer is scared.Kalan wrote:He's the best because he actually cares about the fighters on both sides of the deals he puts together... He wants to be fair to both sides.

Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
For sure, Eddie Hearn is very media friendly and he portrays himself as a likeable and humorous character when being interviewed in front of the TV cameras, but let's not forget that it is actually Sky Sports that is the driving force behind the vast majority of Matchroom's most recent successes.
Sky are the ones funding most of the fight cards and relentlessly promoting Matchroom's events on a 24/7 basis.
If Eddie Hearn didn't have the backing of Sky's massive war chest fund, coupled with fulfilling his contractual obligation for that network to sanction the contests that they'll allow to be included in the various fight cards, I truly doubt that everyone would be singing his praises.
We also shouldn't forget that it was actually his father that established the business in the first place and he's still involved in the day-to-day running of it.
So whilst Eddie Hearn certainly deserves to receive a lot of praise, it needs to be tempered by the context of how he was able to achieve such success.

Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
I'd say Hearn is one of the best around now. From a British point of view he's certainly ahead of warren, Mick Henessay etc
It's weird though as in England he's almost perceived as a pantomime villain in a way.
Matchroom along with Sky are hugely responsible for the up turn in boxing here. Prior to that on the allegedly sports network we had quality fighters like Calzaghe and Hatton etc who whilst we're quality, would be treated much more carefully and slowly, building up big undefeated records before they were risked. Hearn seems to match his boxers must more aggressively in the name of getting the best fights. It's what the fans want

I never understood why he was booed? His Dad was pretty good and he's far better than FW, Hennessy and Maloney was.Ossyrules wrote:I'd say Hearn is one of the best around now. From a British point of view he's certainly ahead of warren, Mick Henessay etc

I don't get it either. I know a lot have a problem with Hearn for his model of putting on a lot of PPV over the yearLoki wrote:I never understood why he was booed? Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
I don't think the booing showed hatred for Hearn. It was more bad timing, interviewing him after the fighters. As boxing promoters go, I don't think he's that unpopular. He delivers regularly for fighters and fans. Sure he has big money, Matchroom brand etc. but he's still the one who puts it all together.
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
Eddie deserves massive credit..
Let's be honest he has turned boxing around in the UK..
Fair play to him.
Credit where credit is due.
Bit dissappointed with one sided cards lately apart from main events but he can't get everything perfect

Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
Hearn's nothing but a Sky yes-man running his daddy's company.
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
Maybe that's not such a bad thing, given what he does for the sport.Ricky_ wrote:Hearn's nothing but a Sky yes-man running his daddy's company.
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
He gets booed because there is a perception that he makes it "all about him"...sitting in the middle at press conferences, always has his face in the middle of a square off, always giving interviews immediately after fights, walking to the ring with his fighters.Loki wrote:I never understood why he was booed? But the reality is he is just the pantomime villain (a role he plays very well for the camera) and the majority who boo see it as a bit of banter rather than hatred
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
That might be true, except he has done way more than his dad ever did.Ricky_ wrote:Hearn's nothing but a Sky yes-man running his daddy's company.
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
He's got the easiest damn job in the world. Sky tell him who they want and Sky promote the fights. Sky are losing big money to BT so staging a saturday night dust-up on PPV, marketed to football fans on the lash on a Saturday is their business model to claw back money. These fights are heavily advertised on Premier League broadcasts, all it takes is some fake 'beef' and they have an customer base.KiwiRider wrote:That might be true, except he has done way more than his dad ever did.Ricky_ wrote:Hearn's nothing but a Sky yes-man running his daddy's company.
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
So be it if he's on a cushy number. We're also doing well as fans, if the public want a certain match up, Hearn provides it consistently. He goes around the country too. It wasn't always like that. I hope he keeps doing what he's doing.Ricky_ wrote:He's got the easiest damn job in the world. Sky tell him who they want and Sky promote the fights. Yeah...don't get why any fans would bitch about the guy that's providing the best shows in the sport over and over again as if he's doing something wrong.Noxy wrote:So be it if he's on a cushy number. Other than rival competing promoters I can't see any good reason why anybody in Boxing should have a problem with the guy.

You mean the guy that put Frankie Gavin vs Kell Brook on PPV?

Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
Best by ability to sell the fights? Probably yes. Most likable? Hell NO!!!

I think this is a fair post. Very good promoter but too much of an Essex boy for me.Boxing Writer wrote:Best by ability to sell the fights? Probably yes. Most likable? Hell NO!!!
Re: Is Eddie Hearn the best and most likable promoter?
He's made himself a personality and put himself centre stage in order to sell the fights, if that results in more exposure and higher earnings for a greater number of fighters then it's all good. I have no real opinion on the man but Matchroom fighters certainly seem to enjoy a far higher profile than those with other promoters; whether he is just a Sky yes man or not perhaps the cards wouldn't have the same pull were they not being promoted as he does...

Yeah but how much of his promotional success down to the platform he has? How successful would he be on allegedly?chinarich wrote:He's made himself a personality and put himself centre stage in order to sell the fights, if that results in more exposure and higher earnings for a greater number of fighters then it's all good.
