Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
only 3 fights in and gets a crack at a 'world title' The WBC Youth Heavyweight title. His opponent is also unbeaten in 5 fights but his record of opponents do not suggest much at all.
This title shite is getting beyond the joke I'm going to email the WBC and suggest that they introduce a WBC Debut Heavyweight title too.

Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
Mate it is not billed as a world title and although I agree it is a load of old tosh, it is not like you are saying it is. And the title is not newly invented but been around almost 20 years.

I think you missunderstood my point really. Been around for 20 years, so how many boxers from the UK have won this title is that time? Can you name them because I dont think I can name 1.
This is the title Hughie Fury should be fighting for not a version of a world title. win this then at least put him in for a world title shot. Saying that Mr Joshua should be fighting for something along these lines too maybe in his 10th pro fight. I dont know it all makes no sense to me anymore. Its best just to ignore this sort of thing.
Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
Etches used to hold the middleweight one.
I thought the sole purpose of these was to extend the number of rounds the contest was for and get a few ranking points. No one takes them seriously.

A pro boxing heavyweight with that young age barely exist, just try to find any, you won't succeed.
Parker and Hughie are by far the youngest in the top 50 as far as I know.

got tickets for this...don't care what belt is on the line, just want to watch dubois whack someone into the middle of next week.
if it gains him favour with the wbc and the path to wilder, that's all the better.

Is it likely he will get a crack at Wilder for his 4th pro fight. And would it make PPV?veriton wrote:got tickets for this...don't care what belt is on the line, just want to watch dubois whack someone into the middle of next week.

Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
This forum hasn't caught Dubos fever as much as others have - where some of the posters have seemingly lost their minds (probably been locked in a room with nothing but the allegedly Twitter feed to read for a month) and think that Dubois should be looking at the likes of Christian Hammer in his next fight.
The lad looks to have a lot of the attributes needed, but it seems all the hype has made some posters forget that he's only 19, with barely any senior amateur experience behind him, and the best opponent he has beaten is David Howe.
He could be the next AJ, equally he could be the next Matthew (Billion Dollar) Ellis. Either way, there's no need to rush him.

Yes, the WBC Youth WORLD heavyweight title has been around since 1999. Boxers up to the age of 23 years are eligible to fight for it.tobyh5 wrote:Mate it is not billed as a world title and although I agree it is a load of old tosh, it is not like you are saying it is. The first WBC Youth World Heavyweight champion was Arthur Cook. The others were Samuel Peter, Oleg Platov, Denis Boytsov, Francesco Pianeta, Andrzej Wawrzyk, Alexander Flores and Herve Hubeaux.
The winner gets a nice shiny belt - good luck to Daniel Dubois next Saturday.

Exactly so why put pressure on a 3 fight novice by letting him fight for any title at this stage. I thinks that his people might be worried he is going to miss the boat so rush him along to catch up to the field. This is a meaningless title but i just dont think he deserves to fight for anything at this stage .
Im not sure what the criteria is for this belt but there are other boxers who should be further up the ladder to box for it.
Im sure hes going to win this then what? Defend it against who? Are other heavyweights who are 2 or 3 and 0 prepared to lose their 0 for a meaningless title.
This kid shouldnt be even considered at fighting for any domestic title at the moment. Maybe an area title yes but again there is the pressure of defending it.
This kid will ultimately pay for this foolishness.
Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
The opponent is ranked 465th on BoxRec...this seems like a standard knockover job and I don't think it's a big deal that some trinket is on the line. I certainly don't see it as evidence that he's being moved too fast.

Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
I know what you mean but how much flexability does he have by defending it, if he wishes to keep it for the duration? The thing with titles the governing body tell you who to defend it against so opponents are given to you rather than your team choosing your destiny. I would rather my team pick my oppo's than the WBC. Also if its an opponent that Dubois team dont like he will vacate which could look cowardly imo.crusader wrote:The opponent is ranked 465th on BoxRec...this seems like a standard knockover job and I don't think it's a big deal that some trinket is on the line. Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
you've clearly no idea how this belt works. ill give you a hint - it's not a real belt to take seriously. the wbc just use it to get a bit of brand recognition, you can defend it against anyone within the age range regardless of skill and it will get dubois on the road towards wilder.mimmy123 wrote:Is it likely he will get a crack at Wilder for his 4th pro fight. dubois has whacked everyone in impressive fashion so its clear his team are just going to run with it. if the rumour about him dropping AJ are true then its worth getting excited about it.

If a 'prospect' didn't manage to drop AJ they may as well pack it in...clearly boxing isn't for them at any meaningful level.

It's nothing to get worked up over. This is essentially a top prospect award. I don't keep up with even the major belts anymore but I'd expect it's pretty common for professional novices competing for this 'title'.mimmy123 wrote:I know what you mean but how much flexability does he have by defending it, if he wishes to keep it for the duration? Jimmy Kilrain Kelly won the 154lb youth title not too far ago (winning it after one of the Maruki bros).mimmy123 wrote:I think you missunderstood my point really. I know they are used quite a lot for prospects in Asia with the likes of Knockout CP Freshmart (on debut iirc) and Ken Shiro winning them before progressing to world titles, and Hinata Maruta has defended one a few times.
Rules for champions is they need to be under a certain age and defend it against fellow youngsters.
Really is just a prospect title
Re: Daniel Dubois - 8th July.
I mean, the guy he's fighting for the belt looks pretty bad and is only rated 465th on this site. If that type of opponent is eligible, will they have too much trouble finding weak opposition to defend against?

Anyone under 22 or 23 I think. Not exactly murderers row. I've never seen one televised, or remembered it. That says enough about it.crusader wrote:I mean, the guy he's fighting for the belt looks pretty bad and is only rated 465th on this site. The point is, there are barely any pro heavyweights under 23 years old, so that this guy is the best out there doesn't even surprise me that much and I fully agree he isn't that good.crusader wrote:I mean, the guy he's fighting for the belt looks pretty bad and is only rated 465th on this site.
