This was the biggest fight of his life and he was off weight; he was 1.5lb over his target weight on Friday night, he had to box rounds in a sweat suit at night then took some hot baths in the morning - i'd be surprised if he's got many more cuts in him.

Hard to say without seeing them together but i'd say they're about the same size. Brook is another fighter that should be fighting the division above.

Horn's battle scars are a source of great pride to help etch his fraudulent "victory" into the annals of Aussie history. The unquestionable top highlight of the night for crude brawler Horn was when he & his cornermen persuaded the ref not to stop the fight.Ruthless-RKO wrote:

Hot baths? Is that a new way to lose weight fast?Ricky_ wrote:The heaviest I've seen from a welterweight on 'official' scales was Victor Ortiz, 164lb vs Floyd, a gain of 17lb. There's nothing new about hot baths to sweat out the weight. Towels under the door, bath as hot as you can stand, shower on. Stay as long as possible before toweling off and doing it again. Repeat until you make weight.Badhusker wrote:Hot baths? Its new to me at least, and I have been around a long time. I suppose it would work but to me there are other easier more effective ways to sweat. I guess maybe I stayed away from it because of the effect it seems to have on you if used too close to competition.punchoutsb wrote:There's nothing new about hot baths to sweat out the weight. Horn, by the way, doesn't look like a huge drainer to me, compared to someone like Spence or Brook.

Guys are getting better and better at cutting weight. 12lbs isn't that big of a cut, he'll continue to make weight for a while.Ricky_ wrote:gilgamesh wrote:He'll be at Welterweight for a while longer. At least until somebody takes that belt off of him.Ricky_ wrote:

Re: Jeff Horn the new Marcos Maidana
Hot baths are the most effective way. It's the quickest way which also means you can be totally dehydrated for the elast amount of time. 10mins in the bath takes about 0.7kgs off. It's 100% humidity which makes you sweat prefusely. It does feel fornicating horrible though and the effect it has on you can be noticeable but being either the same size or bigger than your opponent normally makes it worth while for most guys. You only use it directly before the weigh in, there's really no need to dehydrate yourself for the week leading up the fight and it's actually better to water load before cutting down/out water.Badhusker wrote:Its new to me at least, and I have been around a long time. Couple of articles on Horns prep in local Australian media. I don't know Horn too well but he looked bigger than any Pac opponent and face was very drawn in on the scales compared to how he looked in the ring.Badhusker wrote:Just curious, but how do you know this for a fact? You're the one who started the name-calling. Several years ago the Current Scene was a free-for-all for open hostility, name-calling between commenters and a lot less meaningful boxing talk. Commenters were getting banned on a pretty regular basis and although I never got banned I visited here a lot less for several years out of frustration with the hostile atmosphere. Out of a desire to avoid getting back into that hostile atmosphere I will not be commenting again on THIS thread since you are the one who started this thread and you're obviously a big Horn fan. I didnt realize until a few minutes ago that you are the one who started this thread. My apologies for "pissing on your parade."lazboy wrote:Sounds like you've studied him intimately. That doesnt mean I wont be criticizing Horn elsewhere but I'll show you enough respect to avoid trying to ruin your celebratory thread.

Whatever mate, do what you want. I dont want to be a troll. If you read your previous comments, all of them on this thread they are pretty disrespectful to Horn who was all heart on the weekend. No one said he is/was super skillfull etc or that he would beat the other top welterweights ATM. I thought he won, others don't. But you cant deny he has heart, which apparently you are not now, and he was fighting against the odds. It was a good fight. Instead of everyone being negative about it we should applaud that at least.Best Coast wrote:You're the one who started the name-calling. I'm pretty sure under different circumstances we would enjoy watching fights together and talking boxing. I've seen too many good boxing discussions disrupted here (even in today's Current Scene) by trash-talking & constant hostility between commenters & that's not what I come here for.lazboy wrote:Whatever mate, do what you want. I didnt come here for that either. I appreciate I did start the name calling. It's a passionate topic, I'm Australian and am a little shocked about the outcry. Re: Jeff Horn the new Marcos Maidana
I really think the outcry has more to do with Pacquiao's universal popularity than anything specifically against Horn in particular or Aussies in general. Current outcry is actually at similar levels to when Tim Bradley got his controversial win over Pac, maybe even less outrage than with Bradley.lazboy wrote:I'm Australian and am a little shocked about the outcry.
Although his popularity has faded somewhat as his skills decline with age, Manny Pacquiao is clearly the most popular non-American boxer the US has seen in many DECADES.
Anyone who can remember a foreign boxer as popular as Pac in the US in the past 50 years, feel free to name one because I cant think of any foreign fighter as popular as Manny with Americans from ALL walks of life: white, black, Latinos, Asian-Americans, etc.
