Re: World Boxing Super Series
Man, it seems almost criminal if both tournaments get 25 million. At this point there isn't a possible fight at 168 that I'd go out of my way to watch. The only potential fights at Cruiser that don't look great are the usyk/Glowacki & Breidis/Huck rematches and even the latter I kind of think might give up the war it was supposed to be the first time.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
That's the 2nd Light Heavyweight to move down to 168 for this Tourney
Re: World Boxing Super Series
Braehmer hasn't made super middle in ten years !!!
Why isn't the super middleweight he TRAINS Tyron Zeuge not going in.

Yeah, seems like it'd have been a more natural transition for him and Skoglund to go to Cruiserweight...guess not though.Naandrew wrote:Braehmer hasn't made super middle in ten years !!!

They wouldn't make that field.gilgamesh wrote:Yeah, seems like it'd have been a more natural transition for him and Skoglund to go to Cruiserweight...guess not though.Naandrew wrote:Braehmer hasn't made super middle in ten years !!!

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Yeah true. The Cruiserweight tournament is WAY deeper of a talent pool. Like you said it's criminal that the prize money is the same because whoever wins that Cruiserweight Tournament is gonna have a way taller mountain to climb.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:They wouldn't make that field.gilgamesh wrote:Yeah, seems like it'd have been a more natural transition for him and Skoglund to go to Cruiserweight...guess not though.Naandrew wrote:Braehmer hasn't made super middle in ten years !!!

Re: World Boxing Super Series
SMW version isn't looking great....I mean, there will be match-ups that are more interesting than the standard Skoglund vs journeyman, Cox vs journeyman, Braehmer vs weak EBU level guy, but it's not looking up to par with a 'super' tournament like the CW version is. There were seemingly unfounded rumors of Kessler returning for it, and I thought that sounded ludicrous, but with the current names I wouldn't write off his chances of doing okay in this!

Re: World Boxing Super Series
At this point, they'll need Kessler, Froch and Calzaghe to make it interesting.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
Cruiserweight line up is outstanding !
Re: World Boxing Super Series
I felt Gassiev won and that the British TV commentary seemed to ignore a great deal of what he didTarkus wrote:Personally I thought Lebedev beat Gassiev closely. Not having him thought dont diminish the championship at all in my eyes. He is a fighter on his way out.Naandrew wrote:To me it is for the undisputed title.Tarkus wrote:Great news about Usyk joining. Its not all 4 champs though because Dorticos is only a regular champ and Lebedev hasn't applied. Still a very very strong field. It seems the one man is yet unknown. I'd like to see Makabu in it, or if not then Glowacki.
Draw on June 8.
Lebedev is a paper champion he lost to Gassiev who should be unified champ.
I'd still like him to join this as that was a close fight but ultimately he sh@t it.
2 spots left I really hope one is Kudryashov who has expressed interest
I think Kudryashov will definitely be participating. Although for me he is the weakest of the bunch and will loose his first fight against anybody.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
I thought Gassiev-Lebedev was very close and could've gone to Gassiev by a few or Lebedev by one. Gassiev was obviously doing more damage and Leb appeared weary from the 5th on, but there were long stretches during which Gassiev just walked forward, looking threatening but not throwing. Leb wasn't doing damage, but he kept his hands moving and was landing even when he looked much worse for wear.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
I don't see Gassiev beating Breidis or Usyk if anyone cares what I think.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
When it comes to Gassiev, Briedis, and Usyk, one doesn't seem so much better than the other two that I could write any of them off in a head to head. I think Usyk is the best boxer, Gassiev the most powerful, and Briedis the most balanced. I can see ways for each of them to beat the others, though like you I'd rate Gassiev third in that group.
I know that some posters disagree and believe he's the best at the weight. With so much talent in this tournament, it seems like we'll probably get to find out who the man really is.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Anyone know if Kudryashov will be added? Saw rumours that he'd be joining but nothing official. Cruiser tournament still needs 2 names and can't think of many better than someone who's had 22 fights all end by KO within 7.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
There was an article posted a month ago to fightnews.com in which Ryabinsky said Kud would be joining, but the article seems to have been removed. Dan Rafael published an article a couple days ago in which he suggests that Kud and Glowacki will likely be the final two additions.
So, I guess he's not officially in yet, but I hope he joins. Apparently Usyk said in an interview that Kud is one of the guys he'd like in the tournament.
I also hope that we don't see too many rematches of one-sided fights.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Yesterday Kudryashov in an interviewer said that they applied and its 99% done deal. He also said he hopes to get Briedis in a draw. Incidentally I think that thats the ideal pairing for those two.

Is that what we're looking at so far?
Was GG not mentioned?
Re: World Boxing Super Series
Yes, Groves was the first guy in, and is the only world class SMW entered.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
If it is Kudryashov and Glowacki I'll be even more overjoyed! To see a no.1 cruiserweight crowned in the next year and a half would be special.
The SMW version is getting a lot of stick because of the comparisons but the only blame the organisers share is for choosing the division, it's clearly not as strong at the top as others. Unfortunately Degale doesn't look likely, still unknown whether Smith and Ramirez will enter, so it's sad. With four already announced, they really need names like Smith & Ramirez.
I'm also hopeful of Benavidez joining but I haven't heard a peep about him, I think it'd be ideal given he's just dusted Medina.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Could not happen due to affiliations but imagine if it was the 147 class with some of the bigger guys from 140 moving up
Porter
Thurman
Spence
Pac
Crawford
Indongo
Postol
and dare I say Khan?

True
you could have chosen the 8 best SMW and it would not have matched the cruiser competition. 200lb is one of the deepest weight classes, SMW is arguably one of the weakest.
The fact that we have not got the very best SMWs makes it worse. The fact we have washed up boiled down LHWs joining in...
