One of the newspapers I got used to write RSF which always used to stump me, this was before I had internet and I would check the results of the weekends fights

One day it hit me what it stood for and I felt like a right div

I'm assuming people here know what it stands for? :OhYes:

Some regulators don't have TKO decision. Such is the case in in the State of New South Wales (Australia). It has RSF

I really hope this post was ironically written.

I've also seen RSC in some older books, subbing Contest for Fight.

For me a retirement is when the corner pulls their fighter during a break, or when a fighter quits during the break which makes the referee stop the fight. A TKO can only be determined by a referee at any time during the fight whether that's during the action or in between the rounds.

I think terms like RTD, RSF or RSC give a better understanding of why the contest ended.
Rather than the rather generic term TKO which could mean anything.

RTD means retired...
Usually if a fighter calls it a day or if his corner pulls him out of a fight.

Well, that's what I always thought and believed.

Give the guy who defined it as Referee Technical Decision a cigar. That's what the acronym denotes, even though to my mind, it only gives rise to confusion since it's nothing like an actual Technical Decision, where they go to the cards.

No it doesn't.
RTD is simply an abreviation for the word 'Retired'.

IT DOESN'T MEAN RETIRED IT REALLY MEANS REFEREE TECHNICAL DECISION

REASON A MATCH CAN NOT BE STOPPED WITHOUT REFEREE MAKING THE DECISION, EVEN A DOCTOR CAN NOT STOP THE MATCH IF REFEREE DOESN'T ACCEPT DOCTORS REQUEST. MANY PLACES YOU HAVE SEEN WHERE CORNER THROWS IN THE TOWEL AND REFEREE KICKS OUT THE TOWEL OR PICKS IT UP AND THROWS IT OUT OF THE RING AND MATCH HAS CONTINUED.

I PERSONALLY DON'T ACCEPT RTD ONLY BECAUSE IT COUNTS AS A KNOCKOUT IN A FIGHTERS RECORD SO IT IS SIMPLE A TKO IN MY OPINION.
JUST BECAUSE THIS SITE COMES OUT OF ENGLAND AND THEY DO THIS IN ENGLAND YOU CAN NOT RUN OTHER COUNTRIES RULES BY ENGLAND ONLY.
I HAVE BEEN TO MANY FIGHTS WHERE THE BELL RINGS FOR NEXT ROUND AND REF COUNTS TO TEN BECAUSE FIGHTER DIDN'T COME OUT THEY COUNT AS TKO WHAT EVER ROUND THE COUNT WAS IN. = TKO I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A FIGHT IN ENGLAND WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED SO I CAN NOT SAY THIS FOR ENGLAND.

Doctor can stop the fight, whether in the rules or not, by simply walking away from the ring.
Any referee that throws/kicks towel out of the ring, or ignores doctor's advice lives in bygone years.....it's extremely unwise these days. Possibility of serious injury or death is ever only one punch away.

Thank you for telling us!

I did a google search for it and this is one of the links that came up. I was scrolling and reading and hoping I'd fine what the acronym really stood for :clap:

That said, I appreciate the use of it because it provides both clarity and insight. One of the insights is seeing my "American" neighbors whine about it. That just cracks me up... :doh:

RTD = Retired
RSF = Referee Stopped Fight
RSC = Referee Stopped Contest
TD = Technical Decision
TKO = Technical Knockout
PTS = Points

Can anybody guess what KO means? :lol:
