I had this conversation with someone the other day, as the challenger to a P4P great near the end of his career, it was always obvious Hatton was not going to be getting the fat slice of cake for fighting Tszyu.

However, i must say, I am surprised that he is earning as much as he is for fighting Collazo, HBO must be stumping up a lot of cash, as there won't be a massive site fee to be had now that it's in Boston.

Bottom line is though, Hatton is getting top dollar.

Can you not read?

How do you work that out?

He is quoted as saying "For this fight I am earning three times what I earned for fighting Kostya Tszyu" What part of this quote are you struggling with Big Ears?

How is $2.9m three times $2,125,000?

Let's do the math.....

2,125.000 X 3 = 6,375,000 (Three times Kostya Tszyu purse)

2,900,000 divided by 3 = 966,000 (Collazo purse divided by three)

Hatton received $2,125,000 for fighting Kostya Tszyu - FACT
Three times $2,125,000 equates to $6,375,000

Hatton did not earn $966,000 to fight Kostya Tszyu therefore to state that 2,900,000 is three times that is plainly wrong.

The mathmatical conclusion being that HATTON AND CO ARE LIARS - Got it now?

They are trying to sway the public into thinking they were poorly treated and unpaid by Warren which is not the case. They are not earning more now than they would have done under Warren and they were earning massive money for a WBU championship.

People are pleased that he is getting top dollar but where do you think that money is coming from? You, HBO are not stumping up the cash YOU are by way of pay-per-view. You don't really think HBO are paying him that do you?

Sky blew their brains out on his last one losing 750k this time they are not giving him a guarantee it is reliant on PPV figures. So his purse is not even guaranteed.

Besides, with a US tax situation why spout off what you are getting on the internet when the majority is coming from the UK. Shows the experience these idiots have.

Or that Hatton is getting $6m.

You really should be careful about calling people liars. That's libel if you can't back it up. Have you proof he's not getting paid $6m? coz they have proof he is.

Then where did the quote of $2.9m come from ? Not me.

And if they think their share of any PPV will be £3m they are sadly deluded.

Sky lost 750k on his last fight at prime time, will this do more sales? Unlikely at best.

Someones blowing smoke up the Hitman's arse IMO

Well, Frankly Speaking...when exactly are any figures we hear about boxing reliable. It's all bloody smoke and mirrors.

I find it hard to believe this fight is going to be huge enough to earn Hatton $6million though.

It's not like promoters are under any obligation to tell any of us how much they pay their fighters, nor to neccesarily tell us the truth.

To be honest James, what a fighter, a promoter or anyone in any walk of life earns is not really anyone else's business.

Too much emphasis is put on fighters earnings and the revenue in the sport IMO. However, in this instance it is Hatton that is making the bold statements regarding his own earnings and putting them in the public domain so when he spouts inaccurante figures to the detriment of others then this situation has to be rectified.

One things for sure, upto his fight with Tszyu, Hatton was paid massively over the market value and good luck to him but to now make out otherwise is frankly, distasteful and smacks of ingratitude.

Answer me this, how many fighters, espacially British, do you know who were already Multi-Millionaires (Sterling) going into their first title challenge?

I agree. However, one caveat to that is that other sports at least on the surface of it appear to be more transparent. Transfer fees are clearly administrated by Fifa and the other national governing bodies, though of course football is hardly whiter than white when it comes to side payments.

PPromoters get annoyed about all the speculation from fans and writers about figures, but it's a part of the business which people want to know about, and which fighters and promoters generally don't reveal the truth about.

I'm pretty sure if I phoned Sports Network tommorow, and said I wanted to know how much Calzaghe earned overall for his last fight, I'd be told to go poke it, and fair enough. However, that leaves me having to form my own conclusions based on whispers and hearsay.

People will always speculate about what boxer's earn, and boxing is a very business oriented sport, run essentially as it is, by promoters.

I couldn't possibly comment on the realities of Hatton's finances, but I have heard various figures bandied around as to his earnings, and agree he has in the past been well promoted, and has seemed to earn very nicely indeed.

The problem is of course, that fighters are free to look elsewhere when their contract, and whilst it may stick in the craw of their former promoter/manager, that's their right as a fighter. I can see why it would be viewed as ingratitude, but fighters and promoters both have short memories when it comes to affairs of the balance sheet.

We all know what Duff said, and I guess it's true. I don't think there's a moral issue here, and to be honest I don't find it that surprising what has happened between Hatton and SN. Ricky, like other fighters now sees himself as a genuine star in the sport, and wants to try and maximize his earnings. Whether he is making the right moves or not is not clear yet.

Hmm..not sure British - assume you're saying that the WBU is not a world title - even though SN bill them as such even now.

Bruno? McGuigen? Probably not....

World - Tyson, Mark Breland, Ray Leonard...

Hamed yes definately, Bruno maybe from commercial deals as opposed to ring earnings and maybe Khan due to Olympic success. Other than that the only fighter is Hatton adn what is the common denominator between Hamed, Khan and Hatton.....I'll yet you answer that?

Next question, how many fighters in the UK world champion or not, British or not, have earned purses in excess of £1,000,000 ?

Lets not forget Audley Harrison.... he's a millionaire, much like Amir is.

I wouldn't have minded Lennox Lewis' bank balance prior to him being awarded the WBC belt also.

Where would SN have been without the WBU title? Come on! I'd love to know the stats on the number of WBU title fights SN have promoted against the total number of WBU title fights held. It would be a pretty high percentage.

Why is Hatton's purse a such a problem to some? I mean, we like Hatton don't we?

It's not as though we're left with the same bad taste in our mouth that knowing Warren would be taking a cut brings.

As for Collazo's chances, he doesn't appear to be a big enough hitter to cause genuine concern.

For the record, even as his Manager Warren has never taken 1 penny cut from Ricky Hatton's purse despiet being entitled to 25% Can the same be said for his dad?.

...and if he hadn't been ramming them in at the MEN and Wemley Conference centre - he wouldnt have seen any of that.

warren rewarded his meal ticket - is that really so surprising?

if you havent got a product, you cannot sell it. hatton in manchester is as good a 'product' as british boxing has produced.

Mmmmmmmmmmm no, would Hatton even be fighting on HBO with Warren? No. He'd be getting nowhere near $6 million.

If you're talking about the X5 then Rick bought the lease up.

If indeed that's what he is getting. I would take ALL figures mentioned in boxing with a very large pinch of salt.
