Should Rodrigo Valdez be ranked No.2 in the South American middleweights behind Carlos Monzon? I'd rate Valdez in the top 20 middleweights of all time

The two names that stand out for me are Elder Jofre and Carlos Monzon.

Lorenzo Parra is my favorite current South-American fighter :TU:

I think you're right. I wasn't sure what the definition was. South American encompassing everything outside of the US or South America being seperate from Central America.

I'm not certain that is the case, but it's probable.

Well if I am right, then you can say that you agree. In all honesty I am pretty sure that countries like Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize and a few more are considered Central America.

But when it comes to geographical area aren't those countries considered part of the South American continent?

I don't know how its works over there but is there a seperate boxing governing body for the US, S America and Central America?

I don't think so. I think it goes like Canada, North America, Mexico, Central America and South America, but like I said...I'm just making a guess.

Honestly, I do not know!

Central America is seperate and distinct from South America. So technically Duran should not be included. People can be pretty sloppy with this bit of geography and mistakes are often made as to where the dividing line is.

From Wikipedia

Geographically, South America is generally considered a continent forming the southern portion of the American landmass, south and east of the Panama Canal transecting the Isthmus of Panama. Depending on source, South and North America are sometimes considered a single continent or supercontinent, while constituent regions are infrequently considered subcontinents. Geopolitically, all of Panama – including the segment east of the Panama Canal in the isthmus – is often considered a part of North America alone and among the countries of Central America.

Thanks Lenny, Even at it's most defined, this still has some grey area as you can see.
