Re: World Boxing Super Series
Great tournament.
Only just caught up with this thread. In relation to Lebedev. I'm overjoyed he's not in this tournament.
He was in a very bad way-health wise after the Gassiev fight and I'm amazed he's been allowed to fight again this week.
Can't wait for the draw. Hope they call them out publicly.
If they give Eubank Sr any airtime though the potential of a major F-Up is there.
I can see the 60 minute draw being 53 minutes of Sr explaining the importance of a monacle and jophers in the warriors code, to the Sauerlands and Schaeffer.

I can't think of an interesting fight this fella could have before the end of the year. His career has gone down the shitter, it's horrible to see such talents waste their potential. Not that he hasn't shown his quality, but he's had 3 big fights and he's now in his 30's, he needs to find a proper opponent very soon.craigjenkins05 wrote:Just saw the super middles are full now so degale will be left in limbo think he's still due to fight again this year

Actually I'm lying, Ramirez would be good. Doubt that happens though.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
It seems that ranked fighters will select their opponents starting with the top seed. Weird system. Then in semies 1st will fight 3rd and 2nd v 4th. This is blatantly wrong. Normally 1 is pared with 4.
In CW this means that Usyk has the first go and likely will select Kudryashov. I've heard him say he wants to fight (and I guess bash up) Kud. I have no idea who Gassiev will choose but I hope we avoid Briedis Huck rematch. I suspect noone would want to face the dark horse of the tournament, Perez so we should get the Cuban clash after all.

Ramirez and De Gale would be attractive , but unlikely.TheGingerBomber wrote:TheGingerBomber wrote:I can't think of an interesting fight this fella could have before the end of the year. How about De Gale v Cleverly at LHW for WBA strap that Clev holds

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Be very entertaining but I don't see much gain from him moving up, he's a natural SMW for me. Isn't Clev set to face Jack? That's an interesting one as well, I give Clev 25% chance of winning given his willingness to engage in slogs in the pocket. If Jack takes his power up a weight then he'll be in trouble.Wales wrote:Ramirez and De Gale would be attractive , but unlikely.TheGingerBomber wrote:TheGingerBomber wrote:

2 weight world champion, sellable in the U.K. too unlike a lot of his fights????
Poor James doesn't have many options does he. Should've jumped into super series really!
I heard rumour Jack Cleverly on the Mayweather McGregor undercard but figured August 26 would be too short notice? Mind you, bet the money would be big! Too big to refuse, maybe?

CW fights:
Usyk-Huck
Gassiev-Wlod (apparently made ahead of time due to Wlod being IBF mandatory)
Briedis-Perez
Dorticos-Kud (!)

Re: World Boxing Super Series
All good stuff. Even the SMW tourney.
Usyk v Huck = it will be interesting to see how Usyk deals with the German in direct comparison with the Briedis domination. Does Huck have one more big fight left in him to make this competitive (at least).
Gassiev v Wlod = mandatory. Given Gassiev dirth / economy of activity, Wlod could make it interesting.
Briedis v Perez = I think Briedis should have been the number two seed but it would not have mattered here in the first round under the circumstances. I am a bit surprised that Maris chose Perez given the Cubans skills. Kud going last is an honor, imo. Everyone is obviously wary of his power. Although, you never know, Gassiev may have chosen him if given the opportunity.
Dorticos v Kud = somebody visits the land of twitch.
What I like about the SMW tourney are the unknown factors. I don't know much about Yilidrum, Skogland, Cox or Brant. While Eubank jr is favored, AA may be using a perceived lack of respect for motivation going into next week.
SMW sets up somewhat like the Super Six to me. I think that there is a very good chance of a virtual unknown coming out of the woodwork to win it.
I have a lot of SMW homework to do before September / October.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Some classics in there surely. Perez facing Breidis is intriguing, hard to pick between Perez and Kudryashov though I suppose.
Considering the hype around Cox from some, I'll watch him vs Groves with anticipation. I guess Cox gets blown away.
It's just amazing to get so many solid fights made in the space of an hour, honest, close match ups such as many of these are what this sport is all about, hoping for zero injuries.

Very early picks?
I'll go with Usyk and Smith, but of course a lot can change.

Re: World Boxing Super Series
I'd pick the same 2...but the last time something like this took place (The Super 6) I think Andre Ward might've been like the 4th guy I would've picked to win going into the Tournament, and he wound up winning the whole damn thingcrusader wrote:Very early picks?

Just goes to show you never can tell.
Re: World Boxing Super Series
Perez looked short with the others. He's listed at 6'1", but Im not sure if he's even 6'0".

Re: World Boxing Super Series
Eubank will drop off definitely - he'll make up an injury. He has no interest in entering this tournament! Saying that, I rate CEJ very highly!
I looked at Skoklund's record and I wasn't overly impressed!
Jürgen Brähmer is the man to watch providing his elbow holds up! He'll be 39 by the time he fights in Oct! Maybe he is testing them out for his protégé Tyron!!!

Re: World Boxing Super Series
These tournaments are great for boxing. They give all kinds of people a clear trail of fights and standings to follow. Most here follow the thread of standings on a division, but it really is a commitment to keep up with it all. A series like this keeps track for you and updates the picture with each fight. Who know how the financial rewards add up to the fighters, but they have a guaranteed number of paydays ahead regardless of results, assuming they are fit to stay in.
