This story is a non-issue.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Floyd Mayweather Jr. owes federal taxes for 2015, but while he says he has more than enough money to pay them, he doesn’t quite have enough cash.
Yet.
Mayweather has filed a petition with the United States Tax Court saying much of his money is tied up and cannot be easily converted into cash, and asking for a short-term installment agreement allowing him more time to get the cash, according to Bryan Koenig of Law360. (Paul Gift of BloodyElbow.com also tweeted about the filing.)
That cash would come when he faces mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor in a pay-per-view boxing match on Aug. 26.
“Although the taxpayer has substantial assets, those assets are restricted and primarily illiquid,” Mayweather’s filing said, according to the Law360 report. “The taxpayer has a significant liquidity event scheduled in about 60 days from which he intends to pay the balance of the 2015 tax liability due and outstanding.”
The filing also asks the government to waive a penalty for failing to pay.
The government, meanwhile, argues that Mayweather has the ability to pay his taxes in full or part.
“The agency said that Mayweather had various options available … including by selling property, withdrawing cash from other accounts or taking out a loan,” the Law360 report said.
Mayweather’s gone back and forth with the IRS over the years. The agency filed a $6.17 million lien on Mayweather in 2008 for his 2007 taxes, according to a 2009 report in the Grand Rapids Press.
Mayweather ended up settling that for around $5 million, but in 2011 the IRS said the fighter owed $3.4 million in taxes incurred in 2009 and due in 2010, according to a report at the time in the Grand Rapids Press.
He also had to pay off liens the IRS filed against him in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006, according to an Associated Press report in 2009.
Just last year, the U.S. Tax Court entered a decision on income taxes due dating back a decade ago:
“Pursuant to the agreement of the parties in this case, it is ordered and decided that there is a deficiency in income tax due from petitioner for the taxable year 2006 in the amount of $1,627,563.00; and that there is no penalty due from petitioner for the taxable year 2006.”
A wealthy man with a net worth of several hundred million dollars either paying his taxes late or attempting to not pay them at all is commonplace.

For me, Floyd fought 3 risky fights his whole career... 1. Zab Judah had real good speed, but wasn't too bright.. Zab had the speed to pop Floyd with a lot of real good punches early, but he's a front runner.. He fell apart as soon as he took a few -- and everybody knew he would...gilgamesh wrote:Losing fights doesn't mean you're not a worthy opponent. The boxing world has gone nuts with "Everybody has to be undefeated or they're nobody"...that's just stupid. Floyd fought oodles of top fighters.asdfjkl wrote:TBH I think nearly all boxers are big cowards and fight no way near enough, especially the ones who never lost any match.gilgamesh wrote:
Wilder's yet to prove he can draw a crowd anywhere but Alabama. Floyd on the other hand is a big star. They get hate from the fans for different reasons. Floyd gets hate because he's really good, and because of his domestic violence issues a lot of people hate him. Wilder is decent, but is one of the most cowardly titleholders picking the easiest possible opponents I've ever seen.
TBH I can't remember Floyd taking a fight where he took a risk at all. Most of the guys he fought had at least one lose, if not far more then that.
2. Miguel Cotto, seemed to lose a lot of verve after he was battered with those plaster casts of Margarito's... So it was real good timing to fight Cotto and weather that slick jab... Miguel had Floyd's nose bleeding like crazy early on with the jab.. He couldn't get that sweet left in Floyd's face in the late rounds.. He either wasn't fresh enough, cuz of the battering Margo gave him -- or his brain wasn't functioning at peak performance anymore.
3. Oscar De La Hoya... It was 2 years too late for Oscar. He started to slide into substance abuse and transvestite behavior patterns.. That disrupted his career.. Floyd knew Oscar had major psychological problems.. It was the right time to get him.. Floyd out-boxed him easy.
Mosley didn't have a chance to beat Floyd at his age.. He washed out.. Shane got lucky and had Floyd going in the 2nd round.. But he either froze or was too old to follow up well.. Over a year earlier Shane closed like a savage assassin versus Margarito... He needed some of that closing juice from the Margo fight
And Pacquiao didn't have a chance because he closed his training camp to fans and writers.. Obviously something was physically wrong with him.. Jose Luis Castillo didn't beat Floyd anymore than Maidana, Pacquiao or Oscar beat him.. People claiming Floyd lost those fights are so dumb I can't believe it.

RKO posts loads of news articles like this, often without providing his own opinion on the matter. Not sure why you're getting all emotional and talking about 'hate'.....

Apparently they are not on sale yet. Or they were on sale. I just checked this morning and those links don't work. The t-mobile one was direct from t-mobile but now it says ticket broker and both sites go to a blank page. Also they are saying Ice Cube has a event scheduled WTF.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:The press conferences are this week. Macho is the only person I've seen mention tickets. Yeah, not on sale yet. They'll probably announce it on Tuesday. Ice cube has it booked for his 3 on 3 champion ship. I'm sure they'll buy him out.MachoTime wrote:Apparently they are not on sale yet. Maybe mayweather doesn't want his money spent to bomb innocent civilians. I doubt he's thinking that smart but how about we quit vilifying people for not paying up as though it's a sacred obligation to pay these sick mf'S that spend your money for you.
Re: Mayweather Owes Taxes, Asks IRS to Wait For McGregor Figh
funny. every small guy has to calculate
what he will need for the IRS and have
liquid at due date, but an operation like
mayweather's cannot manage to do so.
sure.

The fix is in on this one. Mcgregor is a willing participant as he gets a career high pay day. Mayweather gets to pay off his tax arrears as he's spent all his money on jewellery and cars.
Re: Mayweather Owes Taxes, Asks IRS to Wait For McGregor Figh
The fix isn't in. McGregor just can't win because he's not good enough. No reason to bother "fixing" this, if it were to be fixed it'd be fixed in McGregor's favor. There'd be a lot more upside to him winning than in Floyd winning money-wise.ewenhay wrote:The fix is in on this one. Mcgregor is a willing participant as he gets a career high pay day. It will still be fixed to make it more exciting . They are probably rehearsing together. Although I agree he could win easily without it being fixed.gilgamesh wrote:The fix isn't in. It's on Floyd, it can be exciting if he wants it to be or not if he doesn't want it be. It's his fight to do with as he pleases.ewenhay wrote:It will still be fixed to make it more exciting . asdfjkl wrote:Mayweather isn't that far of beïgn a bilionair is he? I still don't understand why anyone would pay money for any of his fights.
I don't think Floyd is near being a Billionaire. His total purses to date might be close to it but he pays (or owes) tax on them. As he promotes his own fights he'll have significant outgoings and staff to pay. He also has an extensive lifestyle that will probably see his bank balance shrink. The vast majority of billioniares are wealthy from owning stocks and shares in massive corporations. It's nearly impossible to achieve & then sustain, for a small fish like Floyd picking up 1-off paydays.

I don't think so. He spends a ridiculous amount of money and doesn't pay his taxes. I think that is a recipe for disaster. Let's face it, there have been many boxers who have blown their money.
