After Josh Taylor's hugely impressive performance and 7th round stoppage of Ohara Davies, I was wondering where that ranks among other eye catching performances from UK prospects in recent years?
Unfortunately the majority of prospects now seem to get moved through the levels while avoiding proper tests until they get thrown into a world title shot, so most don't tend to have a stand out performance on the way up which makes you sit up and think "Wow, this kid could be the real deal." Instead, those performances often come at world title level; Yafai vs Concepcion and Burnett vs Haskins are 2 recent examples.
Ohara Davies is clearly a good fighter, how good remains to be seen (although clearly nowhere near Taylor), so Taylor deserves more credit for this win than the typical Eastern European knock over that most 10 fight prospects get fed.
Any other examples of performances against good opposition from UK prospects?

I thought Taylor's performance against Dave Ryan was special for a prospect.
I know it's a debut but Buatsi impressed me last week.
Benavidez decapitating Medina.
Easton blowing that fella out, Zoltan or something like that.

Josh Kelly's debut impressed me, Taylor Vs Dave Ryan was impressive, Groves AND Degale both impressed when they took out Smith, and then faced each other.
Arnfield Vs Stalker I guess too, Frampton Vs Molitor
In the UK it's pretty hard as the promoters don't tend to risk their fighters until they've moved into being contenders, it's a bit tricky. Internatioanlly it's easier with guys like Inoue (Vs Yuki Sano), Tanaka (Vs Hara), Maruta (Vs Canoy), Bivol (Vs Vegas), Lipinets (Vs Ghvamichava)

Zak Chelli (19) he doesn't want journeymen, he boxed a 4 and 1 boy in his second fight.

Naseem v Vincenzo Belcastro was the moment I thought he may be able to continue being impressive at a higher level.
Obviously Lennox v Ruddock was a break out performance that also springs to mind.

Lewis was British, Commonwealth and European champion at that stage - so more than a prospect. His Mason victory was pretty good though.tobyh5 wrote:Naseem v Vincenzo Belcastro was the moment I thought he may be able to continue being impressive at a higher level.

Spencer Oliver vs Patrick Mullings... I took notice at Both of them.
