Adonis Stevenson vs. Eleider Alvarez Targeted For Early Fall
The mandatory fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) and challenger Eleider Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs) is heading to a date in the early fall, according promoter Yvon Michel of GYM.
Michel, who promotes both boxers, expects the World Boxing Council to issue a letter which directs the two boxers to face each other or head to a purse bid.
Michel says Ward discussed several possible future options and none of them included a unification with Stevenson. With a unification fight looking very unlikely, Michel is focusing his energy on finalizing the fight between Stevenson and Alvarez.
"Andre Ward has succeeded in understanding Kovalev's style and making the adjustments required to be able to control him and control the rhythm quite quickly. What surprised me is that he managed to get a victory by KO, because he not usually a power puncher," Michel told Radio Canada.
"The WBC was clear. The Stevenson-Alvarez fight must take place unless there is the possibility of a unification fight. However, Andre Ward did not talk much about Adonis Stevenson after his fight. He spoke of the possibility of going to cruiserweight and going in the direction of Anthony Joshua, a heavyweight fight. Ward is going to take his time. He never rushes his decisions.
"I think we're headed for an Alvarez-Stevenson fight early in the fall."

Stevenson is one of the worst managed fighter that ever called himself WBC World Champion that I have ever seen I mean the guy is talented with killer power but he refuses to fight in a unification that would make him undisputed King of the light heavyweight's team Stevenson always seem to take the easy road he'll be 40 soon what a waist ![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)

I'd like to see a Stevenson-Ward unification fight. By the time Ward makes his decision Alvarez-Stevenson will probably be signed already.

I don't think ward will fight again for a long time, maybe not ever.

Yes. He wasted so much time with the rematch, talking retirement and generally being a little bitch. No talk of unifying with Chickenson, no talk of anything so far.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I don't think ward will fight again for a long time, maybe not ever.
Those 3 belts will remain in limbo for the next 12 months at least. Time to move on boxing fans.
Light heavyweight division is dead or dying at the top. At least cruiser is going to be exciting in the comming months
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Eleider Alvarez Targeted For Early Fall
Though people would obviously like to see Stevenson in a super fight with Ward, Kovalev, or Beterbiev; Eleider Alvarez is a very good opponent. Eleider is probably the best opponent Stevenson has fought since Dawson, so it's a pretty respectable match-up. I've noticed that there are a lot of people on this forum who take an extremely negative view of Stevenson no matter what. But if he were to fight Alvarez, that's not a match-up that's worth criticizing.
Also, judging by the Ward - Kovalev numbers, it seems that a super fight between Stevenson and Ward / Kovalev wouldn't pay that great anyway. Also... a win over Alvarez would go a moderate way towards enhancing the value of a super fight. It's not as though Stevenson's resume is currently that strong.

Alvarez is a good opponent. Stevenson isn't getting any younger which improves Alvarez's chance's.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Eleider Alvarez Targeted For Early Fall
Why so soon? I mean, Alvarez has only been the mandatory for about 2 years...

Exactly why SOME people take a negative view of the Duckative One.crusader wrote:Why so soon? I mean, Alvarez has only been the mandatory for about 2 years...
2 years!
It's unheard of, unless it is Aduckis Kentucky Fried Chickenson
Oh wait, I'm one of the SOME people on this forum.
I solemnly promise not to be if he fights Alvarez. It's not the super duper Light Heavy match up we all want, but I'm not greedy. Just a mandatory fight Mr Chickenson and I will rest my sarcasm. I also pledge to call you by your given name, if I can still remember it

Sergey Kovalev ducked Stevenson. And even the most devoted fan of the Russian couldn't undermine this fact!KiwiRider wrote:Chickenson - mandatory?

Even though Krusher has tasted defeat twice to Andre Ward, with nowhere esle to go in the 175lbs division, Kathy Duva still won't attempt to make a fight between her man and Adonis, because HBO won't allow it.
Therefore, if you insist on applying the "Chickenson" moniker to Adonis, then surely Sergey should be called "Duckalev"?
If you don't know the facts of a situation, then you should refrain from criticising fighters without knowledge.
Only fúckíng clueless morons, who don’t really follow the sport of boxing, are unaware of the fact that Kovalev “ducked” Stevenson!
