Interesting topic, so what sort of price/percentage are we looking at for sanctioning fees then? I mean these rag bag organisations must make money somewhere to keep going and even employing people/sending them to events etc
So if you stage a WBU/IBA/WBS event you pay a certain amount to some fella who made up his own organisation because he has access to the internet and once watched a Tyson fight.

i would have guessed somewhere between 50k and 100k...jamesmcdonnell wrote:I was wondering that. Surely williams got more than 50k for that fight? Not a massive purse but surely 100k+?
That was a fight on prime time TV, don't know what the terms of the contract with ITV are, but you'd think it would be worth enough for a decent payday for the fighters involved.
Billy, you are obviously in the know, and all of the figures you are quoting agree with what i have heard from my friends who are pro'sbilly bessey wrote:i know a few lads that have fought for titles one fought for the british heavyweight and his purse was £30 k also a lad that fought for a commonwealth £6 k i.b.o £12 k british £8k out of that you usually pay your manager 25% your trainer around 10% i would say williams n skelton got about 50-70k each and i dont believe haye got £100k even though he is marketable i would say he got around 35-45k for a 4 to 8 round fight you normally get between £800-£5000 but i have known people fight for area/masters titles for as little as £1200 before stoppages obviously there are exceptions but these figures arent far off for most
but the Haye figure i heard from 2 seperate sources, one a promoter/matchmaker and the other a top pro... i heard a 100k for thompson fight and the same for his most recent defence of the EBU...(obviously less for his non championsip fights)
Seems a lot but you would assume as a free agent and EBU champ he could broker a good deal?!?!?!
you are right Billy, I think Golota was making less than that for his recent world title fights....billy bessey wrote:you maybe right but that is some payment for a european fight against an unknown i remember reading not so long ago that someone got around £160k for fighting for thr world heavyweight championship and that was one of the big 4 titles and its amazing how much shite comes from peoples mouths about how much they earn but its a funny old game
[and haye has to pay for his miami trips somehow]
i saw a fornicating huge BLING BLING range rover a few months ago... dark windows but it was defo a light skinned afro man driving... number plate H4YE U...... dunno whether it was David for sure... but i reckon it was... those rides arent cheap

nice wages for a heavyweight superfight.knockout wrote:Haye got circa £100k the other night

Axel Schulz makes his comeback in autumn and is looking for a promoter, so maybe the Sports Network guys contact him......but only with the big case.. He was offered 1 million Euros for his first fight and turned it down.
Luan got 1,5 - 2 million Euros in the Brewster-fight, Brewster more than 3 millions, the biggest heavyweight purse by far since Lennox Lewis-Vitali.
Sven Ottke got 3 millions for his last fights and was offered a fortune of at least 5 millions to make his last fight in an open air arena in Berlin (Waldbühne).
Beyer earns 1-2 millions for his Mickey Mouse defenses......
The highest purse Joe Calzaghe, the best british boxer, got (before the Lacy-fight) was in the Veit-fight, 1.x milions.

seeing those numbers i am surprised no british boxers have based themselves in Germany.
The germans unlike the majority of Brits support good boxers rather than just supporting good local boxers...

Although in saying that is it not Gene Pukall who gets massive sell-out crowds for his stunning WAA title defences against Frank Bhome, or am I thinking of Sidon?knockout wrote:BubiScholz wrote:nice wages for a heavyweight superfight.knockout wrote:Haye got circa £100k the other night

A little bird at ringside told me at the Maloney card last week, that Haye did very well from signing on fees in his career.knockout wrote:you are right Billy, I think Golota was making less than that for his recent world title fights....billy bessey wrote:you maybe right but that is some payment for a european fight against an unknown i remember reading not so long ago that someone got around £160k for fighting for thr world heavyweight championship and that was one of the big 4 titles and its amazing how much shite comes from peoples mouths about how much they earn but its a funny old game

Boxingchat, when you are getting paid by the public (through ticket sales/PPV/ TV licence) to perform a sport ie football, rugby. generally everybody knows your salary.boxingchat wrote:Can't answer that because I would not discuss other people finances, it's unethical and no one elses business. I can assure you however that none of the figures quoted are correct.
In the USA and Germany most boxers purses are common knowledge, you can find them published on fightnews etc...
It only seems to be in the UK where its still all very hush hush.... this leads to suspicion all round and rightly so sometimes...
If some of those russian kids knew how much your boss was paying the belgian geezer and then saw how much they actually got themselves.. it would have been easy for them to work out how much deductions were taken by middle men.... and they wouldnt be happy campers.
transparency of accounts leads to trust and equality generally....

Yes I must say the UK does seem to lag behind in the announement of fight purses, though of course I would take the figures announced on fightnews with a pinch of salt, as I'm sure there are plenty of deductions and additional clauses in contracts which are not mentioned.
Often the figures quoted will be dependent on shares of PPV money etc, so it's not all black and white, but generally in the UK purses are not announced at all. Maybe there are differing requirements with regards to BBBofC.
Surely the BBBofC must have some record of contracts and purses? Whether they would release that information is another matter entirely.
