Why does Floyd say "after the mitchell fight my body broke down"?

Post by Jip »

He is prety much giving a honest answer why he became a boring runner who does just enough to win a round ud a fight not even going for the tko even so His opponent is outmatched.

I dont understand it, to me in the mosley or guerrero fight he looked as athletic as sharp as ever. Sure gatti or corrales fight were his prime. But he didnt look way past that in later years. So what does he mean exactly when he says his body broke down after the mitchell fight?

I believe he meant that is when he turned into a more defensive minded fighter. He stopped sitting down on his shots and looking for the stoppage because, mainly, his hands were giving on him. He obviously still had his wits and reflexes with him throughout. He just had to save his body from any more punishment is what I got from it.

His hands gave him problem so he wouldnt go for the finish. Good for him, bad for fans of boxing who tune in to watch action and no careful fought ud's. But i can understand floyd a bit. Broken hands do hurt a lot on top when in a figjt and punch with one.

There are guys who have had bad hands in the past but we're still attacking fighters.

To me he became defensive as he went up in weight and wasn't physically strong or powerful enough to keep an attacking game

Naseem Hamed claims to have had bad hands.

SRL claimed his hands were bad even in his amateur days. But it's more the exception, not the rule. Calzaghe and Mallignaggi also have bad hands.

Those were basically the examples I was thinking of. Point being that bad hands doesn't have to equal defensive fighter

You see a guy limping down the road and he will say he has a bad leg. Then you see a guy in crutches walking down the road. He also says he has a bad leg. Point being, maybe Floyd's hands are worse off than the above mentioned.

If you don't like Floyd, he should be swinging for the fences regardless of the degree of injury.

I think the same.

It is simply a huge difference in facing guys like manfredy, castillo and ndou, than it is facing guys like cotto, hoya or mosley.

Floyd had to fight like a pu#;&&y, these guys were just stronger more powerful punchers. He had to dance and run like a chicken. Otherwise had he brawled it out with cotto or canelo than he surly wouldve been tkod.

Thats why i respect midget so much. The guy was like 5'5 and fought big guys like margarito or mosley in a warriors fashions. I miss the old pac. Prime pac against loma, crawford or thurman, such great fights.....ACTION

Fair point that can't be proven wrong, but I severely doubt his hands were worse than the others. That's only an opinion though

Floyd is full of it.. Floyd didn't break down.. He pays a guy 6 figures to wrap his hands since the Carlos Hernandez fight.. In the Mosley fight he attacked Shane for the full 3-minutes of the 3rd round.. He hurt Shane too.. That put Mosley back on his heels and he stopped attacking Floyd for the rest of the fight.. Had Floyd kept up that attack he may have stopped Shane but the fight became a tame affair after that with Mosley content to go the distance -- like he did with Pacquiao and Forrest after they hurt him early on.

Errol Spence doesn't let you off the hook like that.. I knew Algieri was toast when he signed to fight Spence.. The kid wasn't going to let Chris hang out like Pacquiao and Khan did.. It's pretty damned obvious those 2 don't want to fight Errol -- or any of the top Welterweights for that matter.

I agree that this is all BS by Floyd. Floyd's boxing style was exactly what Floyd Sr. drew up for him that is basically a hit and not be hit style and isn't that the point of the sport? Look, i hate running of any kind inside the ring no matter what the scorecards say. Lara running away from Canelo in that 12th round was one of gayest things i've ever seen. I wouldn't call Floyd a runner though he has done a lot of it in his last few fights. He's defensive minded who wins most rounds with pot shots one at a time. It's not pretty or entertaining but it's still skillful. Old timers love that kind of boxing but not in this century. It's outdated but I still appreciate Floyd's talent. I hope he gets his head knocked off but I still appreciate what he can do.

I liked Mosley's effort against MargaCheato better... He went for the KO from the opening bell until Cheato was beaten into the canvas... Shane was incensed that Cheato had plaster on his wraps and he wanted to murder him... Pacquiao should have taken over where Shane left off... He took it easy

And since Pacquiao was knocked stiffer than 7 barrels of penguin sh!t by Juan Manuel Marquez -- he's avoided murderous punchers... No Thurman, no Spence, no Brook, no Porter, and no Crawford for Pacman... More like Timmy... Chrisie... Brandon... Timmy again... Jessie... and Floydie...

I'd like to see him visit murderer's row just once before he's done too... Ain't going to happen.

Pacquiao basically ended Magarito's career with that prolonged beatdown that permanently damaged his eye and should've been stopped in the 11th round.

Floyd isn't obliged to go to war. I'm surprised you guys aren't angrier at fighters like Manny that were overly content to get schooled in dull fashion. When fighters like maidana & cotto came to win it produced entertaining fights.

Good for him...and for Cotto who also got on that eye and closed it tight as a drum... To bad MC wasn't allowed to pound on it for another round or 2.
