Conor McGregor admits he's going to lose to Floyd Mayweather?

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Shocker: Did Conor McGregor admit he's going to lose to Floyd Mayweather?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhVSS0xgIDA&t=7m36s

The 28 year-old UFC champion, who moves over to boxing for the first time on August 26, had previously offered to bet his purse at the Los Angeles kick-off.

On Wednesday, the subject then came up again at the face-off, with McGregor strangely responding to Mayweather saying, 'I'll bet you my money' by stating, 'I'm 28, I'll bet it because I'm going to make it again. You ain't gonna make it again."

McGregor's comments, possibly in the heat of the moment and without thinking, seem to point to 'The Notorious' admitted he doesn't mind losing the purse to Mayweather because he has time to win it back in the future.

Mayweather, if the highly-unlikely bet was ratified, would stand to walk away with up to a billion dollars if Pay-Per-View estimates are to be believed, whilst McGregor could then eye up the possibilty of enticing the boxer into the octagon.

Bookies have Mayweather a 1/7 on favorite to prevail next month, which is largely an unbackable price, although facing McGregor under MMA rules would be a completely different story.

Thoughts?

It's all talk. They both want guaranteed money. Floyd said he would fight McGregor in MMA too. We all know that's not true.

My thoughts are that the article is equally as stupid as the thread. Waste of space.

You know as well as I do they were sitting on that plane having a drink and a laugh. Probably planning the next joke of a tour.
More than likely they both had something that they told the other "hey that's off limits"
This is more staged than a WWE event.

Pure garbage.

Yeah, at one of these cities on the publicity tour on the stage. McGregor responded and said basically that he was full of crap. If it was true, why not do it now instead of a boxing match?

Cause they'vegot a boxing match arranged and booked? Why would they suddenly stop this entire circus to go fight a different fight and make less money?

...considering the event has been orchestrated from start to finish, it's very unfortunate boxing fans take the bait and waste so much of their precious time responding to every line of the approved script of the muppet show...

A bet like that is illegal gambling so the bet is not enforceable and they both know it.. IF they want to bet heavily on themselves there are avenues to do it. There are legal betting establishments in Vegas and all over the Internet. They probably will NOT do this because they're guaranteed a fortune.

But McGregor has a point... This is Mayweather's last hurrah. If Floyd loses the fight he's done...if Conor loses the fight it's all good... He's the underdog anyway and expected to get cleaned out by the master boxer of ALL TIME right??? ... If that happens Conor still makes a ton of money and also increased his fame to a massive degree... However, though few expect Conor to win, he COULD win. He can hit real good and Floyd is 40 years old. And a bit of a puzzy.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that McGregor lands devastating punches on Mayweather and gets him out of there via Queensberry Rules

Does anyone think that if the fight goes the distance that Mayweather could be robbed by the judges to prevent him reaching 50-0 and breaking Rocky Marciano's record and/or because the elite will bet on McGregor to win because of the odds?

No... If this goes 12, Floyd will probably get the decision even if he loses... The judges will be regular Boxing judges who will try to protect the prestige of Boxing as a sport -- by giving any close rounds to Mayweather so the all-time greatest boxer in Fistic History (rated by Boxrec) will not be beaten by an MMA fighter making his pro debut... The referee could be another problem for McGregor ... a huge problem.

No way this is competitive enough to generate a robbery, and I think it's highly unlikely it goes the distance. McGregor is going to try to win. He'll blow his load before he sits back and gets picked apart.

It would be very embarrassing for Floyd and the sport of boxing if he lost. He does not have the height, reach, or age advantage in this fight. Of course, he has the boxing experience and ability advantages.

Those last two advantages mean a lot more than Conor's advantages. Something like an inch in height is pretty much nothing IMO...

Totally agree. The whole charade is embarrassing to boxing. They were probably rehearsing the fight on the plane. As good a boxer Mayweather was, he's completely disrespecting the sport now. Mcgregor is disgracing the sport too and he hasn't even fought as a boxer yet.

They weren't on the same jet. They had the same kind of jet.

It would be embarrassing for Boxing in a way, if McGregor won... But it would be a great boost to the sport so far as participation by youngsters... It would show that a non-boxer who works hard can come in and beat one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport.

Therefore you would see more kids trying their hand at Boxing as they get a load of the money these 2 make.

Maybe they'll knock each other out simultaneously. That would be a good result.

Has that headline been changed since you posted this because that in now way says they were in the same jet, the headline says they arrived in identical jets.

That's happened once in every 18,946 fights... Good luck with that one... An upset is much more likely, but about a 5th as likely as the odds.

It was a joke of course but it would still be a great result.

Floyds also given away similar height and reach advantages. The only one he may not have given away is this much weight. Conor will come in somewhere around 170.
