Buglioni vs Johnson; Yarde vs Burton

Post by ElJefe »

According to Gallagher on Twitter both of these fights are happening. Not sure if it's just a case of them being ordered by the board or whether anything has been agreed but if its the former at least both of Gallagher's fighters must be up for them.

Good fights...would like to see them happen. It wouldn't surprise me if Yarde got 'exposed'...

Really ? !

Sure.., if he was fighting Ward, Kova, Berbatov (you know who I mean), but by Burton ? !

Burton was himself 'exposed' by Buglioni.
I could imagine an awkward mover like Ajisafe showing up some flaws we haven't noticed yet, but I'll eat my hat if any of Burton, Bug or Johnson 'expose' him.

Yarde only had 12 amateur bouts and has been a professional can crusher, with Burton being miles better than anyone he's faced. Despite the hype he hasn't done much to show he'd beyond that level, and he's never had someone give it back to him as pro. I'll be interested in seeing how the stamina holds up with those huge muscles...

He may well breeze through HB, but to me there are still many unknowns...

Will be interesting to see if FW goes all out in the purse bid for Burton v Yarde.

The other is 2 Matchroom fighters so easier to actually make.

Burton is a Matchroom fighter but they would likely let FW pay him and be on BT as he's not huge ticket seller and Buglioni exposed him already.

I don't reckon Burton is anywhere near silky enough to stay away from Yarde. Or silly enough to even accept that fight. I think Buglioni's toughness could be Yarde's kryptonite if they fought, but Burton has that disadvantage of being easy to hit and not so easy to hurt. However, two fights that I hope happen because it helps the sport whittle down the pretenders.

I don't necessarily mean he'll lose, just that I think chances are decent that he looks significantly more flawed than has been apparent in all his can fights. Yarde had pretty much no amateur career, has beaten no one as a pro, has never been past 4 rounds, and hasn't had anything meaningful come back at him, yet some people are already treating a fight against a former ABA and British champ as a foregone win.

How do you think he looks compared to your man Ohara?

You leave O'Hara out of this
I'm sure the loss will refocus him, and he will be back better than ever. He was caught wanting and I don't think that will happen again.
I'd love to see a rematch with the Tartan Terrior if he can make the weight, what with his giant heart and granite chin :-P

Like both fights.

I called it a year ago that Burton would drop the British title if Yarde became mandatory. But circumstances have changed.

I didn't think Gallagher would let Burton fight him but this tweet suggests he will. Plus I don't think Burton is bothered.

If FW pulls out of purse bids then that means he isn't that confident in Yardes ability. Burton is a good step up fight for him ideal for the pat Copperbox card sept 16th. Plenty of time to get this on there gives both fighters an 8 week camp.

Burton is very up for this fight. If it doesn't happen, it won't be down to him.

Good to hear and so he should be. This is the perfect time for him to fight Yarde. As others have said Yarde is extremely inexperienced even though he has looked the part so far. Why would Burton wait for him to gain that experience before fighting him?

Im a big fan of Yarde from what I've seen so far but if he is really all piss and vinegar then Burton will show it.

The domestic scene at light heavy has been a bit stale recently, but these two fights should liven things up a bit.

Provided the fights get made, of course. Given Warren and Hearn rarely deal with one another and Johnson is almost as injury prone as Jack Wiltshire, I wouldn't be too surprised if neither fight gets made.

I hope I'm wrong as they are good fights.

I think must guys struggle when they step levels. Yarde will be no different just because he has a tougher test vs Burton doesn't mean he's not the goods and some point he will struggle that every fighter. Davies I was wrong about I think the Matthews win was better than anything Taylor did. Which is the same point your essentially making. I was wrong on Ohara and to me its a forgone conclusion Yarde beats Burton imo.

The win over Matthews was nothing. People overrated Davies in significant part because they thought him beating small, finished Derry was impressive. Context is important!

Davies has certainly beaten tougher opposition than Yarde though...

Agreed I was one that overrated him but your arguement of why Burton/Yarde isn't a walk because of Yarde opposition is the same point of why I thought Ohara would beat Taylor because Taylor hadn't been in with anyone.

Two really fun domestic fights, particularly love Burton v Yarde. They've been talking about Yarde needing a proper test, well Hosea's your man.

Of course, being 'exposed' (going the distance) can also be a great lesson for an undefeated pro.

I'm excited by Yarde's power but have been around long enough to wait to see how these prospects do against tests such as these.

I like this match-up, if true.

Solid test for Yarde who looks pretty good prospect but is still completely unproven. Think Yarde wil past that test. Buglioni will be stopped by Callum Jhonson IMO in crowd-pleaser.
