Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, who headed the corner of Manny Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) for over a decade, will not allow his boxer to extend his career beyond a rematch with Jeff Horn.
"We have the rematch. I'll accept [the scenario of] Manny fighting Horn once more because he wants the fight, but the end is near. If the fight is indeed done, it will be the last one so [Pacquiao] can dedicate himself to being a better politician," emphasized Roach.
Roach should just shut his pie hole. He can give advice, but he doesn't make those decisions, or even talk to Pac much other than during training. I agree with Hopkins - since he already thinks he beat Horn, move on and fight someone new. Hopefully it is Crawford or Spence. A rematch in Australia will be more of the same judging.
While definitely not what he was 7 Years Ago, I wouldn't go as far as to say Manny Pacquiao is "Shot" just yet. He's looked pretty damn alright his last 3 fights. I think he'll get the Win in the rematch with Horn, unless we get another bad decision. If he were to continue on after a Horn rematch, I think he could still be pretty competitive but it could really effect him years later down the road. I'd hate to see PacMan end up with CTE. I wouldn't mind if he does a couple more and finishes out his 30's, but I'd hate to see him fight past 40
They once asked Sonny Liston if he would advise Patterson to retire after his second 1st round KO loss to Liston... He said "It's not up to me to tell a bird when to fly." ... Manny is the kind of fighter -- on hearing Roach said that he'll plan one more fight, even if he were planning to retire.
When Roach cried to the media, "Manny still hasn't paid me and he won't even talk to me. I don't know if he's mad at me cuz he won't even say hi to me." Pac said, "I never pay Freddie. That's not our arrangement. His pay comes straight off the top and his check is cut at the same time mine is cut."
Roach should think about retiring... He's missing some of the action that goes one during a round or forgets it by the rest period ... like too many judges.
