Marvin Sonsosa

Post by Taansend »

Anyone remember this kid? Still only 26 but hasn't fought in 2 years.

I saw him win the WBO Super Fly title when he was only 19 and thought the Philippines had a successor to Pacquiao.

But he doesn't have the desire. Good skills and punch though.

He won the title here in Canada and was appearing on Canadian TV for a while. Definitely had talent, but notoriously undisciplined.

Scored some brutal uppercut knockouts (actually putting his opponents down and out and not merely rocking them):

Yeah I read an article last year and his old trainer said he had all the talent in the World but an awful attitude and he was a terrible trainer and didn't have enough desire to make it to the top because of that.

Article was very critical of him.

Shame. Half a dozen years of hard work means a lifetime of easy life.

A genuine natural talent...which was part of why he failed to live up to his ability. His KO of Sonsona was perfect. In the rematch with WV2 he looked great...before totally turning off
