Jermain Taylor Arrested, Allegedly Bit Girlfriend Several Times

Jermain Taylor was arrested again early Tuesday morning following an altercation with his girlfriend.

According to a story posted to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s website Tuesday, the embattled ex-middleweight champion was arrested after his girlfriend told police officers Taylor bit her several times, attempted to break her cell phone and threatened to kill her during an argument in and then outside of Taylor’s home in Maumelle, Arkansas.

TMZ Sports – which identified his girlfriend as Ashley White – reported that White, 28, said Taylor bit her face and left arm as she tried to leave Taylor’s home. She said Taylor tried to break her cell phone to prevent her from calling the police.

White also said she used pepper spray on Taylor while trying to get away from him.

According to Maumelle Police, officers said Taylor smelled like alcohol when he was arrested at nearly 3 a.m. The Little Rock native was issued multiple criminal citations and released from Maumelle police headquarters later Tuesday morning.

Taylor, 38, was charged with felony first-degree terroristic threatening, misdemeanor third-degree battery and misdemeanor first-degree interference with emergency communication.
Tuesday’s arrest was a continuation of Taylor’s troublesome behavior over the past 2½ years.

A judge in Arkansas’ Pulaski County suspended Taylor’s six-year prison sentence in May 2016 on the condition that he stayed out of trouble. That sentence stemmed from three incidents in 2015 after which Taylor pleaded guilty to shooting his cousin at his home in Maumelle, firing a gun during an altercation with a family at a Martin Luther King Day parade in Little Rock and punching another patient at a mental health facility.

Not an easy problem to solve in the best of environments. Maybe once neuroscience advances enough, the problem will no longer be pushed to the backburner and ignored.

Taylor needs to be placed in a mental health facility before he kills someone... In America most mentally ill folks end up in jail instead of getting care.

Biting your girlfriend's face and trying to destroy her phone because she's trying to call the police? ... She already bought pepper spray in case she had to deal with Taylor, so she knew he might be a problem... I've known several women who've gone with guys who were really messed up. Why? They mistakenly believe they can help them. They seldom can. You wonder why they keep trying. Women with sick men are sick themselves -- or desperate.

The aftercare for ex boxers doesn't exist. The first thing a young boxer should be told is that you can't get out soon enough. Make your money, achieve your potential, and then find something else to do before you're trapped in a downwards spiral to disaster. But whose job is it to tell you all this? Especially in America where the rich and famous have extra privileges to destroy themselves.

Its difficult to tell from a distance but by most accounts Jermain Taylor seems to be a nice guy who has been unable to cope with all the pressures of boxing and whatever brain injuries he may have suffered from being violently knocked out several times.

The system has not only let him down, but especially those who have suffered from his criminal behaviours.

Isn't it also time that boxing began to look after its own a bit better?

I saw Taylor training in Miami with Emanuel Steward in 2006. It was an open media workout. This was after his two wins over Bernard Hopkins. He seemed like a nice guy. He bought pizza for everyone. About a year later, he lost to Kelly Pavlik. Even after his losses to Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham, he still was able to win a world title in his last fight against Sam Soliman for the IBF middleweight title.

No there isn't. Just watch the movie Concussion about Football and CTE. But the football fans talk about it like it's new and boxers haven't been dealing with it for decades.
