Horn: I Made it Open I'd Want Mayweather, My Goal is To Unify

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Although it's very, very unlikely - WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) is holding out hope that he can get a piece of returning five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs).

There is a rematch clause, which Pacquiao has yet to exercise.

If Pacquiao takes a pass on a rematch - then Horn is hoping that Mayweather sticks around for at least another fight or two. Mayweather has made it known that his body is feeling the brunt of training camp and he doesn't have any intention of fighting beyond the bout with McGregor.

Horn also wants to get a unification going - with IBF champion Errol Spence or WBA, WBC champion Keith Thurman.

"Obviously we are looking at the rematch if Pacquiao wants it but if not, I've made it open out there that I'd definitely like to take on Floyd Mayweather if he wants to come back and have a proper boxing match with someone. Then unifying the division obviously is another goal of mine," Horn told Brian Campbell of CBS Sports.

"I don't think [McGregor] has much chance, that's for sure. Obviously he has a puncher's chance. In any fighting sport, if you land the right shot I guess Mayweather can go down, but I highly doubt he can connect with anything at all."

If Pacquiao does exercise the rematch clause, Horn is expecting another grueling fight.

"I think it would be definitely another awesome fight," Horn said. "I think I will definitely step up better but then again Pacquiao might come up and fight even harder again. Who knows? There will be fireworks once again if we get Pac-Horn II."

all these are meaningless end of career
publicity stunts. floyd is history and he
is smart enough to know that and thus
takes only a fight he cannot lose while
still making big money.

neither floyd nor manny are relevant
anymore. it just hasn't trickled in to
everyone because their names are so
enormously big.

Pacquiao is still relevant. If Mayweather defeats McGregor and gets his 50th win, then he will be relevant too.

Made me cringe when Horn called out Mayweather...still not in the same leaugue as Khan's sick obsession. He would pose a far greater challenge than Conor...Horn has what Conor lacks, volume, stamina and....boxing skills.

manny: i hear you, i just disagree.
if it was not for his past he would
be a name like any other top ten.

floyd: defeating mcgregor means
nothing in my opinion and should
not even count as his 50th. if a
world class boxer at the very end
of his career takes on someone in
his debut boxing fight, that should
not count as anything. at least it
does not for me. imagine marciano
taking on a newbie as his 50th ...

manny was the no 1 knock out
artist ten years ago and has not
won by knock out since 2010.
floyd did not look brilliant in some
of his last fights either at least not
to me and he has been out of the
ring for almost two years. there
is a limit to what even these greats
are able to achieve.

How is his goal to unify, but he wants to fight Mayweather? He has no belts. I understand that he's looking for the biggest payday possible and could be set for life (With wise spending/investments) from a Mayweather fight, but nobody cares to see it. I still think he lost to Pac and with good judging, will probably lose the rematch. Horn can't beat the top guys at 147 or other belt holders, Thurman, Spence, Porter, Garcia, etc....

There is no etc...and there is no Garcia... Danny lost his Title to Thurman... But Horn would get murdered by any of those guys... He's on cloud 99.

The thing is... Pacquiao has been avoiding ALL those guys for years and cherry picking away like crazy since he was knocked stiff in 2012... And one of his soft punching neophyte cherry-picks finally bit him in the ass.. Still, cherry-pickin' Pacquiao will probably do very well in the rematch.

Saying Horn will get murdered by anyone else , , is a bit much , after all the whole world including myself thought Paccy would murder him . I watched the fight without the biassed bollocks from Atlas , and i thought it was a fair discision , whilst not the most technical of boxers Horn proved to be fit , tough and willing to have a go , in mannys face all night , and believe it or not thats the style to beat Mayweather ,, he reminded me of the other two Aussies Jeff Fenech and Jeff Harding ,, If i was a world champ i'd dodge like fook any Aussie called Jeff , If there name was'nt Bruce i would'nt go near them :OhYes: :OhYes:

I don't think people thought Pacquiao would murder Horn... The little tyke hasn't knocked ANYBODY out in many, many years... Most thought he'd beat Horn by decision like he wins all of his fights for the last 7 or 8 years, and most thought he did beat him... And obviously you have the same situation with Pacquiao since he was knocked stiff in 2012 that you're going to have with Horn.. Horn will also avoid the top Welterweights to avoid getting knocked stiff.. Horn will fight soft punching types like Pacman did: Rios, Algieri, Bradley, Vargas and so on -- rather than facing killer punchers like Spence and Thurman.

Horn is not ready to commit suicide, so it's going to be more of the same as it was with Mayweather and Pacquiao ... Cherry-pick City.

If his goal was to unify he'd be calling out Thurman and Spence.

Horn knows Mayweather isn't a Welterweight Champion and won't be fighting any Welterweight Champions...

He's just using Floyd's name because he thinks that will get him more publicity ... and he doesn't want anything to do with Spence or Thurman.

:TU: I agree with this all. Horn is in a rare position, he never needs to talk smack, all he needs to say..... "My name Jeff".
