Carl Frampton v Andres Gutierrez

Post by Mimmy »

Seems a decent opponent for Framptons comeback fight after his loss. Is this the sort of boxer you would expect Frampton to beat easily? Or is this a 50-50 fight?

Solid enough opponent - only been outside Mexico twice.

Doesn't look to have massive punch power but solid enough chin.

The undercard won't be great - most of the monies are for the main event.

It's not who I'd hoped he'd fight and the undercard is pretty poor. Hey ho it's still free. I thought McGuigan might try and whore it out to Premier Sports or something.

How much do you think a Channel 5 would put up for Frampton and Taylor/Davies ?

That's something I'm not very well versed on tbh mate. Not sure about purses and to deals etc... Frampton will be on a decent wedge I'd have thought though.

Ive never heard of Gutierrez before, looks a solid opponent on paper not the worst comeback opponent ive ever seen, his only loss was a close decision to Mijares which ive heard was debatable, he also has a draw with Jesus Ruiz who challenged Santa Cruz for the world SBW title a few years ago, Gutierrez looks to be a bit of a puncher on paper at least anyway

I'm sure his style will be a lot more straightforward for Frampton to deal with, Carl looked a bit bewildered by Santa Cruz's tactics in the rematch and looked out of sorts, Frampton should get back to winning ways no problem here, he'll have to be careful not to expect to just steamroll Gutierrez though, remember what happened when he tried to walk through Gonzlaez Jr, if Frampton uses his skils to break Gutierrez down then this should be a wide win on points

Glad its on free to air TV but its the weakest headliner and undercard of any Frampton-lead Cyclone show.

Maybe that's why Channel 5 got it? Nobody else was putting up much money for it?

What's Channel 5's budget like, I wonder?

I'd prefer to see them do decent small hall shows, with solid 50/50 fights than cards with big-names fighters who aren't taking on huge names. (No disrespect to Andres Gutierrez.)

According to The Sun website, there is a 30-minute preview show at 8pm on Channel 5.

Guessing he won't be coming back to the scales if they have called it no eliminator bout then.
