I can't see Benavidez losing this one. He's been looking fantastic. Also, his win over Porky Medina is underrated it seems. Porky Medina was coming off a close fight where he beat up DeGale. Benavidez knocked him out.

Good Matchup. Benavidez youth against the more experienced Anthony Dirrell.

I think his win over Medina has been highly rated. It's suddenly turned him from a prospect who looked meh against Douglin to a hyped contender.Mexi-Box wrote:I can't see Benavidez losing this one. Super Middleweight
Champion: Open
1. James DeGale
2. Badou Jack
3. Gilberto Ramirez
4. George Groves
5. Anthony Dirrell
6. Arthur Abraham
7. Callum Smith
8. David Benavidez
9. Andre Dirrell
10. Tyron Zeuge
TBRB rankings have him under Callum Smith and Arthur Abraham which is completely ridiculous imo.

Those rankings suck. Jack doesn't fight at 168 anymore, if he did he should be rated above Degale.

How high should he be when his top two opponents are Porky Medina and Denis Douglin? I've seen a lot of hype for him on forums, and he seems to be regarded as a very promising talent, but his record just isn't that strong yet.
I was really impressed with him last fight and favour him here. He's very young, so he can come again even if he loses.

Medina was a close decision away from becoming one of the top guys in the division. I think that's a very good win, especially performance. He's definitely above Smith and all the other prospects.crusader wrote:How high should he be when his top two opponents are Porky Medina and Denis Douglin? I don't think that much of Medina. He was nothing more than a fringe contender for the bulk of his career and I think the Degale showing (which he still clearly lost IMO) was a one-off.
I do think Benavidez showed a lot of promise, and I'd back him over several guys with stronger records, but IMO when factoring in resumes it's justifiable to have him that low (or maybe even a bit lower) right now.

That fight was competitive more than it was close. The decision was wide as far as I remember. I don't think a ton of Medina, but Benavidez certainly looks the part. He was really good on commentary the time I saw him too. Much better than Atlas.

So I just watched the Medina fight this morning. Interesting stuff.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Anthony Dirrell will face David Benavidez on September 9 in Los Angeles, California for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title.

Benavidez used to fight at heavyweight, eh? That's incredible. He must have been a fat fornicator. He has a strange build: no shoulders, not overly cut or muscled at all. But man he looks like a born fighter, absolutely loving it in there, and really fun to watch.
What other fights of his should I check out?
