Marlon Starling v Buddy McGirt
Marlon Starling v Buddy McGirt
Who'd you have fancied if these two very decent technicians had fought? It could have been possible at the latter end of Starling's career when McGirt had moved up from light-welter (89-90.)

He was great, but whenever I hear his name, I can't help but think of Tomas Molinares.

Only just seen this, cracking hypothetical, not sure I have seen this before.
This would indeed be a real tussle of technicians. Definitely not a barnburner though, mcgirt preferring to counter anyway and Mookies shell difficult to penetrate, i probably like a Starling S/D type fight too

Mcgirt is one of my all time favorites and I met him numerous times - we are both from Long Island.
He was a terrific fighter with an eye-popping final record of 73-6 and a two division champion. But in my opinion Starling would be too strong for him to handle. Starling was very strong and physical in addition to being a world class boxer.
The naturally bigger man wins this fight in my opinion.

I think Starling would do just enough to deserve the decision. Would probably be a pretty good fight.
