Looked to me like Jack was taking it easy and could have KO'd Tate anytime he chose. Tate was just trying to fend him off.sockdollanger wrote:Great find indeed! 1919, just before the Willard fight. This is young, hungry Dempsey, and there isn't much footage of that.
Dempsey was clearly working on handling a man of Willard's size in the clinches during this session. What strikes me most about this footage is Dempsey's speed and quickness of foot, slipping Tate's jab effortlessly and closing distance with explosive power near the end of the clip. This is good stuff.
