IMO, it's okay to ask where Calzaghe ranks amongst LHW's, even though he should probably only been considered a SMW if we're considering each fighter to belong to one division for all-time discussion purposes. However, this thread 100% should have gone in Boxers Of The Past. Moorer could've probably been included on the poll, even if it's clear that he wouldn't have won it.

although i havnt really seen spinks at lh i would think he might be the best based off his resume. jones never fought makelzewski and beat up more b level fighters, albeit spectacularly.
moorer again i didnt see at light heavy, but he was only wbo champ i believe.

Honestly, I can not remember a lot about Moorer at LHW, and I do not want to use Google to refresh my brain.

He didn't do anything at light heavyweight. Menacing, unproven puncher. He belongs on this poll less than kovalev, ward and calzaghe.

Moorer looked fantastic at lh. The strongest most physical boxer i have ever seen at this weight. Plus an atg puncher @ lh. Just judging from the vids he looked more menacing than spinks.

I was a massive Moorer fan. Leslie Stewart, his best opponent, was beating him when he was stopped on cuts. A guy I had never heard of, Stonewall or something, extended him far further than he should have and finally convinced him to stop cutting so much weight. Spinks menaced HOF fighters like Marvin Johnson. But yeah, you watched the film with your expert eyes. :roll:

Virgil hill did alot more at light heavy weight than all those mentioned except maybe spinks. He was a two time ling reining champion and a quality performer. Would he have beaten those mentioned ??hmmmm calzache aside i seriously doubt it. But he was a dominant light heavyweight champ

Height=same
Reach=advantage moorer
Power=advantage moorer
Moorer fought solid opponents and had 100 % ko ratio. Spinks who didnt fight much better caliber except qawi who has 11 losses had many uds. If spinks wouldve traded shots toe to toe with moorer he wouldve got kod. Had spjnks enough footwork and technique to ud moorer, i will be honest i dont know. So maybe spinks wins maybe not, moorer would be my favourite.

Who knows what would happen if '83 Spinks and '89 Moorer fought...... But the comment that their LH oppositions were similar is just plain laughable.

Is that funnier than listing their measurements? I'm not sure which one was more hilarious. Moorer's weight cut was significant. Obviously, we all get fights wrong at will, except for the JIP, but an 'expert' with such limited knowledge of history is annoying as fornicate.

I'm a huge Calzaghe fan, and do consider him the best 168 pounder of all time, but 175?

Hopkins is a better win than people give him credit for, but Jones? Nah, his record is far too sparse at 175 for him to even be considered for me. I wouldn't have even put his name up there.

I don't think Kovalev or Ward should be mentioned among top 5-10 ATG LHWs. Even though Kovalev sort of ruled the division with an iron fist, he never faced the other two top LHWs, Stevenson and Beterbiev. Looking at two of the other champions during the same period, 48-year old Hopkins and Fraud Shumenov, we can see that excluding Stevenson and Beterbiev, the division was weak, so ruling it without facing the other top guys, by itself can't put Kovalev in ATG list. An eye test also shows Kovalev's limitations in punch variety, inside game and some other areas.

If Kovalev is not among ATG LHWs, then neither is Ward once beaten by Kovalev.

Beterbiev isn't top 100. Nobody should be penalized for not fighting him, though I agree ward, nor kovalev rate that high. I'd rate kovalev higher than ward.

Than tell me who besides qawi were so much better on spinks lh resume than what moorer had on his?

Moorer fought 22 times at lh, t/ko them ALL!!! His opponents at the end had similar records what spinks had, so not much difference in opponents quality.

Spinks fought 27 times, with 7 uds the rest t/ko. Same like moorer, spinks never had an atg lh opponent, the best opponent he faced was qawi, a man with 11 losses.

Why not just say you're a current'expert'and you know absolutely nothing about boxing history? Marvin Johnson, Mustafa, Lopez, etc..are the same to you as Hassan? That's like saying wilders opposition isn't much different from wlad's.

Come on saad. If u think spinks is better than moorer at lh than fine. But dont act like there is such a huge difference between the 2.
