Eubank Jnr has to pay W4rren damages

Post by tobyh5 »

From BS.com

Chris Eubank Jr may have been celebrating recently with his best career win to date, over Arthur Abraham, but the British super middleweight suffered a defeat outside the ring earlier this week.

Boxing Scene can reveal that at the recent annual British Boxing Board of Control AGM the IBO belt holder was ordered to pay significant costs and damages worth a six-figure sum to promoter allegedly.

The case relates to Eubank Jr withdrawing from a fight against Tommy Langford last year. At that time Eubank Jr was British middleweight champion and Langford his mandatory challenger.

Eubank was set to make the second defence of his title in October 2016, in Cardiff, but pulled out with a “severe” elbow injury. The polarising character was berated on social media for the cancellation of the fight with Langford calling him a “time waster”.

Warren had won the purse bid to stage the contest and had documentation to prove that Eubank Jr had signed his part of the deal.
Speaking to IFL TV earlier this year Warren said: “We announced the fight, we put tickets on sale and we paid for the venue. And that’s all now subject to us as a claimant, a legal claim for damages – I am very very confident we will win. I don’t know where they will go with that.”

Eubank Jr has now left the middleweight division behind winning the IBO super middleweight belt, and after his win over Abraham on ITV Box Office can now look forward to a World Boxing Super Series quarter final against unbeaten Turk Avni Yildirim.

Langford will likely return this year after suffering his first professional loss to Avtandil Khurtsidze for the interim WBO world middleweight title back in April.

Warren’s next promotion sees the full WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders defend his belt for the second time against American Willie Monroe Jr.

And why not when one considers his record in court. I think that if W4rren was threatening me with action, I would settle as he only appears to go that route when he holds all the cards. If he is threatening, you will pay what a court will award but have a shit-ton of costs on top and settling can at least avoid that portion

Fwank knows the score, only Don King really stung him, and Fwank reckons £7.2m was cheap to get rid of him!

Good. Not generally a fan of promoters getting one over boxers, but I had tickets for that show and was very pissed off when Eubank Jr pulled out for no good reason. Admittedly the card fell apart generally anyway, but at least there were valid reasons for the other fights.

Don't know the ins and outs , But has mentioned by Rio , a simple doctors note and the board can kiss his arse , there not doctors and cannot over rule one .. But if he pulled out citing a sore elbow , toes or whatever and did'nt get a clearance from the doctor , the mans an arrogant fool ,, In any case has Charles said the board is one thing a court is different , so whats the legal obligations regards the board fining him , have they got the authority to order Eubanks to pay Warren

They can suspend him until he pays up. I. guessing that Frank appealed to the stewards and it was on of those appeal cases where the stewards look at everything. They do have doctors on board.

I'm guessing FW doesn't particularly want the money, but he's proved a point and can certainly slow down the ITV deal.

As the previous poster said, Snr has virtually sealed their fate with his fornicating nonsense.

I'm okay with this, as long as Warren makes sure the first dollar drops to the fighter. :TU:
