Charlie Edwards vs Iain Butcher

Post by handsofstone »

For the vacant British Super Flyweight title on Saturday, could be one of the fights of the night, 2 very classy boxers, both move well and I think it will be evenly matched from start to finish, Edward is still rebuilding after the premature world title fight against Casimero last year where he was thoroughly outclassed before being KO'd, he did show a lot of heart in that fight and a great chin, it took a superb shot from Casimero to get him out of there

Butcher obviously had the razor thin points loss to Satchell a few years back which most people probably thought he won, since then he's struggled for the big fights, had a couple of call offs etc, he beat Essomba last year in a 10 rounder but it should've been for Thomas's Commonwealth title but Butcher failed to make weight so this is the opportunity he's needing

Both guys up at a new weight, I know Edwards is probably the favourite but I think if both fighters are on song then Butcher wins it for me on the cards

10-1 seems like pretty wacky odds.

Was there any reason for Edwards to be such a huge favourite?

Think they were just testing the waters with their opening price, by the morning they had realised their mistake, just wish I had grabbed it at 10s

Massive odds! If I'd seen that I'd have had 100 quid on it. 4/1 is still big for a close close fight IMO. Might stick a score on a Butcher win. I fancied Butcher when the fight was made.

Edwards wins this one all day long, but THE fight at fly/super fly that we should see is Andy Selby v Edwards. :box:

Iain is no mug as you say. I'm sure he could Selby some rounds, but will can't see him improving on the Edwards loss. Selby appears to be a few notches up from Edwards, but would like to see them matched.

Edwards wont fight selby. Already ducked him. Selby beat him several times in the AMs.

Personally I'd like to see Iain have a few fights pretty close together to get him back fight sharp, if he had been fighting more regularly imo he would have gave Edwards a much better fight and could have possibly out hustled him. Tbh things haven't looked all that right for Iain since he switched management from Paul Graham, I think he got his head turned and promised a lot but imo Paul wanted what was best for Iain and was probably more attached to him personally rather than him being a number somewhere else.

What happened to Satchell? Just checked his record, no fight in over a year and not one meaningful one since he won the European title in October 2014.

Satchell is a strange case. A nice upward trajectory, and then a sudden drop in opposition and his career pretty much dies out.
