Nathan Cleverly ?

Post by Andrew »

What is up with him. Not a peep from him since October and no fight scheduled.

I thought that the Jack fight had been done for ages and to be announced for the Mayweather McGregor card at any moment but now Hearn saying they need to offer more money.

https://mobile.twitter.com/EddieHearn/s ... 7966060544

That farce is 5 weeks away so surely if Cleverly v Jack isn't signed now it's not on the undercard.

They need to get their sh!t together and sort that fight out because Dmitry Bivol could get called as Nathan's mandatory soon.

I like Nathan a lot but Bivol will beat him like Kovalev did.

Wouldn't surprise me by this stage if the WBA didn't strip him of the title just to get it (The regular world title) active again.

Saying that, how an organisation can have a 'Super' world champion, a world champion and an interim world champion all at the same time is still a mystery as well but I'm not one to judge or complain as long as fight's get made.
Obviously this is one of the times I will complain, Cleverly hasn't fought since he won the title where as, when you look at the guy who's holding the interim version of the belt; He's defended it twice and won two other fights because he wanted to stay active. Far as I'm concerned strip Cleverly of the title and let Dmitry Bivol be the regular world champion. Least we'd see it getting defended at last.

If this is Hearn holding out for more money off potentially the biggest pay per view fight of the year (As much of a spectacle fight as it is) then he is in for a shock.
Nathan needs to fight Badou Jack, it's the best fight for him to make a lot of money in one go. his other options are either fight ward in a unification match and by this stage I think Ward would take Cleverly apart or fight Bivol who honestly, despite being a good boxer and obviously eager to prove himself, wouldn't sell out a stadium in the UK and that's before you even think about how to sell it to a pay-per-view audience.

I think Clev's busy style would give Badou Jack's pace some trouble.

Wouldn't say cash out - just looking for proper money when your World Champ travelling away.

There's about 300m or something cash wise coming from the show and probably $500k for the entire undercard. You can see why he'd want reasonable money.

I think his best payday would be against Ward if the WBA mandate it to sort their belts out.

It Hearn can get Paul Smith a fight for a WBA belt then he can surely arrange this,

The much much worse alternative for Cleverly is if the WBA mandate Dmitry Bivol.

Bivol will smash him.

WBA don't mandate Regular vs Super champion unless they know they'll be getting some serious money..

WBA could've easily gotten ridden of the 'extra' titles by now..

What happened to the Braehmer rematch? Obviously I know it isn't happening, but I must have missed the details.

Braehmer must have ducked it. It was talked for April time but nothing happened. Now he has moved down in weight to go into the WBSS

Then there was talk of Sauerland having an option on Cleverly so he was going to fight Skoglund...but that never happened either as Skoglund is moving down in weight for the WBSS.

In my own mind I don't class cleverly as a proper world champ. WBA normal is second level belt with the wba, so sorry clev.

I'd be pretty confident jack being the better all rounder would get the edge over clev. Clev has more holes in his game and would present more opportunities for jack

Clev really fûcked his career up training with his clueless dad. Feel a bit sorry for him. I think they both thought they'd show Enzo Calzaghe up, that was the impression I got when Clev was on the up. The pad work he did with vince on video was embarrassing for a title contender.

Is he still trained by Vince?

He couldnt have atajes with FW ir he had stayed with Calazaghe, the dame with Enzo Mac, both were well rewarded for their loyalty and were given plenty of opportunities

No. Split up a few fights ago. Think he's still with Darren Wilson.

Well the WBA have mandated Bivol so it looks like his career at top level will be coming to an end soon.

Hearn has done f**k all for him since the Braehmer fight.

I saw an iIFL interview with Hearn, complaining that Cleverley asked for a rematch with Bellew in his post fight interview.
Obv after a bore fest Eddie was quick to backtrack as it wouldn't be an easy sell. Bellew always takes a good fight and is an easier fighter to promote. I suppose Nathan is much harder to sell and therefore has fallen right down the pecking order.
