Broner didn't give up. He was trying, but Garcia is upper-tier elite. Broner came in the best shape of his career and the most focused. Garcia just made Broner look like a bum because he's that good.gilgamesh wrote:Broner is the one who made it boring. He was defensive and scared to engage the entire fight. Garcia handled him the way he had to be handled. If Broner had actually fought like he was trying to win it would've been a more exciting fight.
Basically it was kinda dull because one guy was trying to win (Garcia) and one was content to just show up and receive a check (Broner).
Broner put himself into the role of Gatekeeper last night. He'll be the name guy for better fighters to beat on from now on.
Broner would've been stopped if he had opened up. Garcia hurt him, and we all know how Broner gets if he doesn't respect your power. Broner walks you down if your power doesn't deter him like he did when he was at 135 and down.
Broner was just too negative throughout the fight. People need to remember that Mikey doesn't make his money off of being a pressure fighter. He's an elite counterpuncher with power in both hands by trade. This fight was exactly like the Burgos fight where one doesn't want to engage for fear of being stopped and Mikey had to pressure and cut off the ring. Again, Mikey shows that he has an amazingly versatile arsenal, though. Dude can pressure and cutoff the ring like a damn surgeon.
I definitely don't think Mikey should stay at 140 lbs., though. I think he should move back down to 135 lbs. and grow into 140 lbs.
