Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
Let's talk about stamina.
Wilder (I've never saw him tired , he manages his stamina pretty good with his safe outside fighting)
Klitschko - In almost 41 years he showed better stamina than Anthony Joshua
Povetkin - In his last fight he faded away a bit. But still better stamina than AJ
Haye - with his extra lbs i noticed he gassed out against Bellew
Now let's talk about those 3
Joshua - I saw him tired alredy 3 times. Even against Breazale he seemed to be tired.
He gassed out in 2 rounds against Whyte and in his recent fight he was pretty lucky that Wladimir had no idea how to finish him.
Just watch end of the 5th round. He was there to be knocked out.
Joseph Parker - Also suspect stamina. Gassed out against Takam
Luis Ortiz - Ortiz is a big man who is not youngest. But i do think his stamina is not so bad

Not what I saw - he got caught with a big shot, granted. But once his head cleared he resumed what had happened up to that point, walking around the ring landing at will until Whyte's unbelievable chin finally gave in.IronFrost wrote:Let's talk about stamina.

Having said that - of Joshua's weaknesses I think Stamina is probably the most pronounced based on the Klitchko fight

He stopped Wlad in round 11. His stamina is fine.

Cause Wladimir did let him gain some energy.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He stopped Wlad in round 11. His stamina is fine.
He was done in that end of round 5.
He was like David Price against Hammer. Sleeping on the ropes
Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
He got his wind back, but he was far more gassed earlier on than I'd expect a top fighter to be given how much he'd thrown. He looked exhausted pretty much as soon as he opened up in the fifth, barely being able to raise his arms at times and seemingly needing the ropes to help keep him up. He was out of the fight for several rounds when his output had really been nothing special...
Id say that he does look to have a small gas tank, but hes been able to refuel and get his energy levels back up, whereas it's pretty much all downhill when guys like Price start to tire.

It doesn't look like a strength, but if it was that bad he would have lost.
Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
He's shown he can get his energy back, but I thought it was alarming how seriously he gassed in the 5th. He hadnt exactly thrown the kitchen sink, but he was utterly exhausted and offered pretty much nothing until the 9th.

He was facing his best opponent by a country mile in front of 5 times his largest crowd. I imagine he had a few butterflies.crusader wrote:He's shown he can get his energy back, but I thought it was alarming how seriously he gassed in the 5th. Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
His stamina is fine, needs to lose 10lb in muscle though.
Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
Parker has just done 3 back to back 12 round fights. He fought Ruiez on the back foot for 10. Shure he took a few rounds off but who besides Wlad the Superman dosent?IronFrost wrote:

Ortiz controls fights to his pace- which is slow. Anything more than that and watch him fade big time, he's old.
Wilder, while fit, has not gone 12 since Stiverne and he was faded as an old rug in that one

Until he shows it, it is not worth talking about.

Let's talk about the stamina issue... To YOU AJ seemed to tire.. He didn't, but you get momentarily winded in any hard fought fight.IronFrost wrote:Let's talk about stamina.

You fight in bursts.. There's ebbs and flows to a fight and Joshua controlled MOST of the Klitschko rounds... He scored 3 high energy knockdowns and a stoppage.. Klitschko had 200 amateur and almost 70 professional fights.. He KNOWS how to get people out and his KO ratio proves it.. AJ defended very well.
Joshua can defend himself extremely well in fact.. Whyte was running his ass off when he got his clock cleaned with a smashing shot.. One big punch nailed Joshua??? Fine, that happens... but a dozen big shots hit Whyte -- none bigger than the finisher.. And AJ didn't grab... He didn't clinch... He didn't run.. He didn't do anything but fight back strongly within about 10 seconds of Whyte nailing him... A far cry for Ali getting decked hard and half unconscious by a 185-pounder
Breazeale was controlled 100% for the duration of that contest.. Breazeale is the man who gassed in his only loss to date.. He took brutal punishment.

He is young enough, and trains hard enough to recover. Wlad is supremely fit and massively experienced. Marathon runners compete at his age. To take him out after 11 rounds says AJ can go the distance. He never went that deep before, and probably never will, but it proves he can.
Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
To say he didn't tire is laughable...the man was exhausted and hardly offered anything for 4.5 rounds. At times he could barely hold his arms up...

Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
There are two kinds of stamina, one is the muscles, the other one is the lungs. Joshua has too much muscle for his lungs to handle, somehow you can recover quite fast from that. You can feel the muscle stamina when armpressing for example. After a serious competition a girl could win against you, somehow you're not out of breath at all.
AJ suffers from his lungs, Miller and Szpilka for example seems to suffer from the muscle.

Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
He's not exactly Calzaghe, but he's not David price either.
Opponents will look to target his stamina as an area of doubt.
The 2 times in his career he's tired, was combine with the fact he'd been buzzed in the 1 and put down in the other. That has additional effect on energy. So my point is his tiredness was solely self inflicted, his opponents contributed.
Remember Joshua had fought about 40 rounds prior to Wlad. He's mega inexperienced and had never had to pace himself like that at all before. Against brezeale he was in total control. Against whyte after round 3 finished he was in total control. He's had very little need to pace himself as it was almost completely on his own terms.
The Wlad fight was in the balance. He'll have learnt so much about his engine etc.
In short I don't think he has a stamina problem, but shedding a few to maybe 240 might help

Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
We don't know all the facts and are judging AJ on one fight.
The biggest HW fight this century.
The biggest fight he will probably ever have.
The biggest home crowd.
18 professional fights and a brief am career against a legend in top shape.
Did he manage to get any sleep the night before?
Was his chin going to hold up?
Did he overtrained?
Was he puking his guts out in the dressing room?
Who knows. I will reserve my judgement on his stamina for the future.

Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
If you're exhausted to where you can't hold your arms up, you're done.. Wladimir would clean you out.. AJ had NO problem keeping his hands up throughout the fight.. He certainly didn't lose 4 or 5 rounds in a row or take them off.crusader wrote:To say he didn't tire is laughable...the man was exhausted and hardly offered anything for 4.5 rounds. AJ won the 5th with a knockdown. Lost the 6th by getting knocked down. He took the 7th off to clear his head.. He controlled the 8th with his jab.. went hard to the body in the 9th driving Klitschko back again.. won the 10th and finished well ahead on the cards.. finished a rapidly fading Klitschko in the 11th... The 6th and 7th were slow rounds for him which he lost, where he had to defend a ton of punches. It was a hard fought 11-round fight that he won by KO.. He needed the experience. So with 19 fights and 55 rounds he's undefeated in 3 Heavyweight Title Defenses with 3 KOs. Foreman has 2 KOs in Title Defenses.
Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
...one might argue about the reason but Joshua did look tired...I was wondering at that point what might have happened had Wlad been 10-15 years younger..
Re: Has Joshua the worst stamina in top 5
Haye? Haye is not top 5.
Parker, Pulev, Ortiz, even Chisora would smash him to peices at this point.

It's bad. Wlad isn't a pressure fighter, so it didn't matter all that much. Vitali would've taxed and beaten Joshua into submission in that same scenario.
