Shawn Porter vs Thomas Dulorme to headline prelims on FOX on Aug. 26

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Shawn Porter will be fighting at the T-Mobile Arena on August 26, but he won’t be on the Mayweather-McGregor pay-per-view undercard. Instead, Porter will headline a preliminary fights card airing live on FOX, facing Thomas Dulorme.

Porter (27-2-1, 17 KO) is coming off of a stoppage win over Andre Berto on April 22, which followed a 10-month layoff after a competitive decision loss to Keith Thurman. The 29-year-old Ohio native is the mandatory challenger for Thurman’s WBC title, but with Thurman on the shelf after surgery, he wants to stay sharp. There has also been talk of a potential meeting with Danny Garcia this fall.

Dulorme (24-2, 16 KO) was once seen as a serious prospect at 140 pounds, but the Puerto Rican never quite got over the hump, losing at welterweight to Luis Carlos Abregu in 2012, and then at 140 to Terence Crawford in 2015. Now 27, Dulorme still has youth on his side, but there seems to be a ceiling for his talent, and we’ve likely reached it.

The fight between Porter and Garcia wasn't actually ordered by the WBC, although Porter seemed keen. Dulorme is part of Mayweather Promotions, they may have offered Porter a good deal. (Even though he won't be on the SHOWTIME card).

Also, I doubt Garcia wanted the fight.

When Shawn Porter called out Danny Garcia a fortnight ago, it was for an Autumn bout, which is still anticipated to happen, as it'll likely be a WBC final eliminator.

This fight was never going to occur any earlier than late 2017 and the WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, has not ordered that bout yet.

Porter’s August fight was already scheduled around the same time Shawn called out Garcia, with his opponent only being named yesterday. It's simply an opportunity for Shawn to stay busy.

Danny Garcia does have options though, as he could choose to face other opponents instead, such as Brandon Rios, Amir Khan and also Mikey Garcia, so a potential fight against Shawn Porter is far from being considered a certainty.

To address those that wholeheartedly believe that Danny Garcia is far too “cowardly” to face Shawn Porter, let’s not forget about the extremely impressive list of big name opponents that he has already faced:
• Lucas Matthysse
• Keith Thurman
• Amir Khan
• Kendall Holt
• Lamont Peterson
• Zab Judah
• Paul Malignaggi
• Robert Guerrero
• Nate Campbell
• Erik Morales

For the record, I would favour Danny Garcia to defeat Shawn Porter if their recently proposed bout eventually becomes a reality.

Nice post EO.
Informative.
Fingers crossed for Porter Garcia.
I rate Porter above Broner and it should be exciting. Garcia fought how he had to with Broner, I expect Porter to 'bring it' and make an exciting match. :box:

I think Porter vs Garcia is a 50-50 fight imo. Garcia may want a confidence builder before that fight though.

"Danny Garcia vs. Shawn Porter Will Be Ordered, Says WBC Prez"

According to Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council, he does plan to order a showdown between former champions Shawn Porter (27-2-1, 17 KOs) and Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs).

Porter is ranked at number one under the WBC, while Garcia is the second ranked contender.

Sulaiman says the his organization is waiting for one final piece of the puzzle - for Porter to come through with a victory, and without injury, in his next fight.

Porter will stay busy by facing Thomas Dulorme on August 26th in Las Vegas.

Sulaiman is reluctant to order the fight with Garcia right now, because there is the possibility that an upset takes place or Porter gets injured in some fashion.

"Yes [we plan to order that fight but,] there is the issue that Porter is going to have a fight in a few weeks with Dulorme - but if he wins we are going to order the fight for the interim-title with Danny Garcia," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.
