new correction, see above post.
Re: Opponent correction...
How do you know and, if you have more info, do you also have the correct date for us?
Re: Opponent correction...
hi wouter,
time frame, location(s), Weights Gilroy started as a 15 year old feather weight in 1933.
you'll notice too Freddie Smith fought one of Bert's cousins Jacky Rea, who might actually have been Dom Rea or Lawrence Rea, not sure exactly... you see they sometimes adopted other names to fight in the Booth's undetected so they could get the extra money.
wee Dom fought at least 100 Pro fights his obituary states 100 odd, but wee Dom also fought well over 500 Booth fights, some of which would also have been Pro vs Pro fights and both Sanction and/or 'unsanctioned'...
But of course you know this about British fighters at the time, how else did they rack up 300 & 400 fights. Some people just kept better records of themselves than others, i.e Jim Lawlor, Ginger Sadd, Charlie Parkin and literally hundreds of others. Heck even the great American Bobby Dobbs was reported to have participated in over 900 Booth fights.
a marvellous time for boxing such as never to be seen again.
thanks wouter.
