I can moan about so much with the state of boxing currently, particularly the need to contribute to PPV and the increased proliferation of titles, and don't get me started on the Mayweather/McGregor farce.
But to be honest, it's status as a sport in this country hasn't been higher since at least the 1960's, when 250,000 people bought the Boxing News each week and 17 million tuned in to the radio to listen to Cooper v Ali.
We have our major fighters appearing on Sky, Bt, allegedly, Channel Five and ITV. The national press are now picking up the boxing baton as well due I think to Anthony Joshua. It's a shame the BBC haven't quite recognised the new direction the public has taken with regard to sport.
Trust me us boxing fans have never had it so good. Once again people are talking about boxing and boxers. We will see how popular boxing has become in about 8 to 10 years. I would bet that amateur clubs throughout the country are seeing young lads turning up in numbers and some will be the stars of tomorrow.
Sadly, history shows that this surge of popularity will not last forever. So enjoy it when we can.
