I will always put McCallum's KO of Curry as the best one punch turnaround I ever saw. I think I watched it about 20 times in a row when I first got the tape.

The next one that did that to me was Tak getting sparko'd by WA. Someone posted a gif of that on here ( or ESB ). Wish I had the link

Great call Slapsie. Curry unloaded on McCallum the 1st couple of rounds, even stiffening his legs a couple of times (McCallum had a cast iron chin), and then McCallum times him with a left hook that Robinson would have been proud of.

I watched on slow motion about 10 times in a row, and it's a real pearler. Curry is moving back out of range with his hands down, and McCallum launches a left hook from his left hip, it starts low and rises suddenly, and you can see that Curry, who has shifted all his momentum backward suddenly sees it coming. He tries to turn away from the shot, but his momentum prevents him setting his feet to turn away from the shot and it lands absolutely flush on the side of his head/jaw.

And yes, was Kalambay who beat McCallum. Kalambay was a pretty good fighter it has to be said, amazing that Nunn knocked him out in 1!

Can't remember if these fights were on ITV or BBC , but it was the series of fights when the Superfeatherweight division was reintroduced in Britain.

there were 13 holders all losing the title in their first defense, and it was looking if the title was jinxed. There were some right upsets amongst them : Daho KO1 Cowdell, John Doherty KO11 Floyd Harvard, Kevin Pritchard KO Hugh Forde , Sugar Gibiliru KO9 Robert Dickie.

I'll never forget Honeyghan dismantling Curry. Ity was a bit one sided to be a great fight but Honeyghan was top drawer in that one.

was Dean Francis v Mark Baker on ITV or SKy?

that's one of my faves. Francis was becoming one of the best super middles in the UK (to go with Calzaghe, Woodhall, Reid, Starie and Woods), and a lot of ppl felt he was going to be ready for a world title. Damn shame, he was exciting.

Talk about ITV fights of yesteryear,
Listen to Reg Gutt during Witherspoon-Tubbs :
'Witherspoon lost the WBC title he won from Greg Page to Pinklon Thomas, while Tubbs beat Page for the other one, hope that doesn't confuse you like it does me',........poor Reg's head must be SPINNING now.

Yes, James I rmember it well. On the front page of KO in 1988 from what I recall

Left hook from a Southpaw stance want it. Special, Special fighter Nunn was. Very underrrated. KO'd Crawford Ashley with Body shots. And Nunn was past it then.

6'2" Southpaw Middleweight, good chin, great boxer, good punch. He had it all

I reckon his demise against the great JT was mainly due to weight making. Would have been an interesting rematch at 168.

Kalambay was world class also, but about 5 or 10 years older than his record states. I used to have a guy working for me who was in Sumbu's camp along with Judas Clottey.

I'd put Nunn in a Middleweight top 10. Beat Frank Tate for the title who was another terrific fighter.

For sheer skill, power, accuracy and guts its got to be Bowe V Holyfield 1.
That truly was amazing to see two heavyweights with such speed and power bang hard for 12rds a reminder why the division is the most exciting or at least was.

Although Honeyghan was one of my favourites, you would have to say Marlon Starling gave him a masterclass when beating him in their matchup.
It was a great display of defensive boxing , whilst staying in range of your opponent, Starling was a very good boxer when on form.

One bad night i remember on ITV for Starling was when he was knocked cold by a punch out of nowhere by Tomas Molinares, The punch was thrown just after the bell, think the result was a NC in the end. Strange bit was in an post fight interview Starling denied he'd been KO'd. He was then shown the knockout on a ringside moniter, he didn't quite know what to say.

Think Nunn easily outboxed Toney and was miles ahead when JT landed the bomb late on - which shows how good Nunn was....

Heard Nunn was already into dealing/using drugs by then - got back with a bad crowd he used to hang out with as a kid. What a waste of a million dollar talent that was.

In fact I think ITV were out of boxing from Benn v McClellan until Khan v Kindelan!

Can you believe Benn has almost been retired for 10 years - jesus time flies!

I think the cracking McCullough-JL Bueno fight was 1996 (WM's last defens eof his bantamweight title). Also, I recall Adrian Dodson v John Mbasco, Calzaghe-Delaney being afterward. As well as a couple of Shea Neary wars

a question.

Was Dennis Andries' win over JB " Just Bad" Williamson on ITV? I recall it was in a tent somewhere and I was chuffed to bits for him.

I always really liked him and even more so when he reinvented himslef after being beaten from pillar to post by Hearns

I read an article once that when he up sticks and went to train at The Kronk, they treated him like crap, but he buckled down and, by the end, no one would get in the ring to spar with him because he kept beating them up.

Thomas Hearns said he was one of the toughest men to ever set foot in the Kronk. That was a horrible fight to watch, Andries took such a pounding, the way Hearns carried his power up with him is absolutely freakish. 7 times Dennis went down I think.

Never liked Nunn. He bored me to tears. The Kalambay KO was an abberation, much in the same vein as Sweet Pea's KO over Juan Nazario.

James Toney became my fave fighter when he dethroned the lanky mover.

Wasn't there a series called Pro-Box on in the 80's or 90's. I remember Gary Newbon used to host it.

Think they had some of the early Eubank fights and used to get video of overseas bouts as well.

Honeyghan stared to believe his own hype. I remember Tyson saying how great Lloyd was and it was like Honey thought it would be easy. I also remember Lloyd saying that Starling was shot (which he obviously wasn't).

Honeyghan couldn't have fought a worse fight tactically than he did against Starling. Marlon was great defensively and had a stout chin at 147.

Don't think you can blame Barwick. It was the lack of decent fighters and fights availbale after Warren defected to Sky. Hearn tried his luck with Eamonn Loughranm and Herbie Hide but shit don't sell. Same is probably going to happen soon with Sky.
