Fammo v Legra

Post by Grant »

In the bad old days when some organisations still allowed referees to be the sole judges of fights (remember Ricky Day vs Rocky Mattioli ) Fammo beat Legra with a score of something like 74 1/2, 73 1/4. Can anyone explain how that sort of score was acheived.?

Very weird scoring. Had to be a 5 point round to the winner of the round with the loser being 4 and a half or 4 3/4. Obviously the wider the round the larger the fraction. But that is just a wild guess as I'm not taking into account even rounds as well.

Sounds about right. John Hogg is familiar with scoring in those days. Check with him, next time you see him.

I have seen footage of old fights where the referee puts his hand on the winner's head the moment the final bell rings.

Yeah there was one time after Des Crabb put his hand on the winners head, Ian Looker and Des got into it. Obviously Ian thought he won the fight.

Seen that two.

Seem to remember an old fight Vic Patrick refereed where he had no sooner put his hand on the winner's head and he was through the ropes and out of there - almost all in the one action.

And I think the confusion of adding up quarter points was the reason the referee screwed up the Famechon Harada fight and gave it a draw, but when someone added up the card Fammo won by a point. Anyone else remember that?

I always thought it was a strange decision to have Pepp as ref in that bout.... i certainly dont know if Pepp and the Famechon family were on friendly terms... but there is certainly a history there...

Just to be clear, im not saying Pepp was involved in any shady doings, i do believe he scored it as he saw it.... credit to Fammo, gave him an immediate rematch in Japan and put it beyond doubt the 2nd time around....
