Mark Heffron To Fight For Title on October 21

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Undefeated British super-middleweight prospect Mark "Kid Dynamite" Heffron (17-0, 13 KOs) will be fighting for a "major title" in October according to his manager Kevin Maree.

And Boxing Scene understands that it will take place on October 21 in Leeds on the undercard of Josh Warrington's next fight. A show that will be broadcast live on BT Sport as part of their multi-date deal with promoter allegedly.

The bill also features Jack Catterall challenging Tyrone Nurse for the British super lightweight title as well as Nathan Gorman and Nick Webb colliding for the vacant English heavyweight title.

Maree, who describes Oldham's Heffron as "the best prospect in world boxing" was training the 25-year-old before retiring to concentrate on managing fighters. Heffron is now trained by former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton. Hatton also trains the English 168lbs champion Darryl Williams.

After only two fights last year Heffron has been kept active in 2017 with four fights to date. His most recent outing coming on Saturday night (July 29) in Oldham when he outpointed his late replacement opponent Istvan Zeller over four rounds. The bout had been scheduled for eight rounds but was cut to four at late notice.

The domestic state of play in the British super middleweight division sees Rocky Fielding as the current British champion, and his first defence takes place on September 30 in Liverpool when he faces Commonwealth champion David Brophy.

Nice to have a lad from my ends making progress. I was at the Leisure Center this past weekend. Was a decent show.

Only other local shows I can attend are at the Middleton Arena, they had one at the Village Hotel in Ashton not long ago.

Hopefully he can kick on and get some meaningful fights. Been a very stop/start career. He's obviously a talented guy.

He's fighting Apti Ustarkhanov for the WBO European title.

Not seen Ustarkhanov his record is 15-2-3 but all of those losses and draws were split decisions or majority decisions, and he was a decent amateur, Russians are always tough and come to win so will probably be a big step up for Heffron.

The WBO European belt is not a major title.

Nice to see Caterall fighting for British title. Cant see him losing to Nurse but will be a good measuring stick as to far he can really go.

But is it a step up though ? Will have to see in the night, just look at Yardes opponent for the WBO European opponent the other week...dreadful.

Been aware of Mark Heffron for a bit and only heard good things about him. He apparently has some serious power.

Had a big periods of inactivity but the last year he has been very active. With his age and record now is the time to let him off the leash and really test him.

Needs to start fighting Blackledge/Cameron/Smyle type opponents to see if he can make next step - never really fought anyone in 17 fights.

Seems a good opponent this lad, as stated, his losses and draws are close, and some to talented fighters. I don't know much about Heffron but this could be his make or break fight if this opponent is your typical come forward, tough Russian. I agree that his domestic rivals should be targeted next year if he's as good as they say and gets the win.

Also, this card is looking very solid for a fight night, any idea who Warrington is facing?

It will get him a top 15 ranking so it has some worth, but no, the EBU belt would be a major title for example...
