Other members swaying your predictions
Other members swaying your predictions
Interested to hear examples of people's posts swaying your predictions before fights.
A huge reason why I come on this forum is to hear people's reasoning of why they believe a fight will go a certain way.
Before posting regarding canelo ggg, I did truly believe that canelo was going to box his way to a fairly comfortable ud
Crusader mentioned gggs rangey jab, and it struck a chord with me, so I rewatched the Lemieux fight and am now 50 50.

Re: Other members swaying your predictions
The vast majority of the posts submitted to this forum are highly-critical in nature, with the derogatory sentiments usually based on the commonly-held misconceptions of the Lemming-like mainstream masses, which usually bear no relation to reality.
So unfortunately, I cannot say that other members’ opinions have influenced my predictions, due to the fact that most of the comments I’ve read are mainly from people venting their hatred rather than commenting on the practical aspects of the sport of boxing.
I’m not implying that the people that frequent this forum don’t know their stuff, but I am saying that they simply don’t contribute enough valuation information to compel me to revaluate my position on matters.

For me, I pretty much pick the opposite of what Jip predicts.
I ignore sensless babble from people like EO.

I find that very sad, even more so because it's probably 90% accurateEnlightened-One wrote:The vast majority of the posts submitted to this forum are highly-critical in nature, with the derogatory sentiments usually based on the commonly-held misconceptions of the Lemming-like mainstream masses, which usually bear no relation to reality.

Yes, other people influence my predictions and regularly I used to be right but changed it into a wrong prediction. Like with the Daffy Duck vs the cruiserweight fight for example, where I eventually expected Daffy would make it to the end and receive a false win, like the opponent of Kovalev had.

Re: Other members swaying your predictions
When Taylor-Davies was first announced I was very confident in Taylor and saw him being a few levels above Davies. From what I'd seen, Davies looked technically poor, not particularly fast, and his power wasn't really proven at much of a level; I just couldn't see much to get excited about. Taylor, on the other hand, oozed class and was strong in pretty much every respect, not to mention that he was an Olympian while Davies had about 15 amateur fights.
However, many knowledgeable posters were going with Davies or talking him up as a threat, and hence I started wondering if I was overlooking something about him. By fight time I had lost much of my confidence in my pick, but Taylor quickly showed that he was by far the better fighter.

Re: Other members swaying your predictions
I can't say anybody has ever swayed my opinion... I think there are knowledgeable guys like davie and some others, but I go with the opinion of professionals first.. They have far deeper insights, but they can be biased as well...I was amazed at Easter, Spence, Floyd, and other really top and extremely knowledgeable boxers going with Broner to beat Garcia... Why??? ... I can see pulling for an underdog, but don't make them the winner.
You know it's gotta be bias.. A lot of people comment on boxers who don't have a high degree of skills.. I don't pay that much attention to 2nd rate fighters.. The top boxers I expect to win all their fights.. If they're not highly favored I think that's where you can profit from a bet.. However you cannot always bet your pick for winner.. Because of the politics of Boxing.. It's an extremely corrupt sport.

I listen to people opinions on fighters coming up, guys that I haven't seen or cannot find clips of their fights.
This to me is invaluable getting feedback from people who have actually seen these fighters at small shows before they get onto the big stage and I get to finally see them. Taken with a grain of salt obviously, this is the internet after all
Otherwise, people's opinions are their own and I respect that.

Sadoffthedick swaying my first prediction from thinking he's a half-mong to a full fledge downs patient now.

Lots of forums you would be banned for that sort of comment. If you had some sense you would delete that comment.Mexi-Box wrote:Sadoffthedick swaying my first prediction from thinking he's a half-mong to a full fledge downs patient now.

Re: Other members swaying your predictions
I like to get people's opinions on up and coming fighters I may not be aware of and I do enjoy reading all the fight predictions. As for others predictions influencing my own, it probably doesn't happen much and, considering a bout is basically 50/50 I am woefully poor at predicting results, but to be fair I have a tendency to let heart rule head rather often...

Boxing matches aren't coin flips. It's somewhat rare to find a boxing match that is matched that closely.chinarich wrote:considering a bout is basically 50/50

You are right, but Porter-D. Garcia might be this kind of match.Lackeos wrote:Boxing matches aren't coin flips. It's somewhat rare to find a boxing match that is matched that closely.chinarich wrote:considering a bout is basically 50/50

I know that I meant that there are only two competitors it's not like I'm trying to pick the winner of the Grand National (or Kentucky Derby if you're American)Lackeos wrote:Boxing matches aren't coin flips. Re: Other members swaying your predictions
There are some names here that I have a lot of respect for, but the records of the fighters and how they look when they fight is what I go by. The smartest people are often wrong which is why I always get a good laugh when someone calls someone a moron for a prediction especially if its on an old timers fight that will never happen.
I don't think professional boxing writers know more than we do. I think that's true in every field, business, sports, politics. The professionals are often wrong as well.
