He just fought Klitchko and was all set to do so again?
Are you suggesting he is scared of Ortiz and Wilder?
I don't know, but the fact is Joshua has the choice between Pulev and Ortiz and want to fight Pulev and never speak about Ortiz.
I genuinely don't think AJ is scared to fight Ortiz...surely fighting Klitchko proved that he is not afraid to setp into big fights.
As an aside, I don't get the hype around Ortiz. I admittedly have watched very little of his career so I stand to be corrected, but from what I have seen
- knocked out Allen; and took seven rounds to do it. Imagine what would happen if AJ fought Allen.
- UD win over Malik Scott, who Chisora stopped. I know Scott didn't try to engage in a fight so perhaps a bit harsh to judge on that alone
- stopped Tony the Tiger - but David Price came close to doing that himself
All in all, I don't really see what is on his record that justify the claims he should be considered next in line.
Who Pulev has fight ?
He's the mandatory challenger for the IBF because Joseph Parker vacated his mandatory position on 10th December 2016 to fight for the vacant WBO title.
Since his defeat against Klitschko, except Chisora who good Pulev has fight ? Only low ranked boxers.
Ortiz is not perfect, but to my point of view he is more suitable than Pulev for a world title shot.
First he is undefeated, then he is the WBA mandatory challenger since December 2015 (almost 2 years) and he has defended his mandatory position 4 times against Jennings, Thompson, Scott and Allen.
- Jennings: Ortiz was far way better than Klitschko and won with an indisputable KO.
- Thompson: Again Ortiz was better than Klitschko and again won with an indisputable KO (but OK now Thompson is a little bit old).
- Scott: Ortiz totally dominated the fight on winning all the rounds with 3 knocks down. Normally the fight should has been stopped with a KO after the first down in the 4th round, but the referee count very slowly and help Scott to sit up. (watch again the fight you will see that is the truth). Ortiz was never in the difficulty even with all the tricks of Scott (faking the rabbit punch, clinching and slipping when the situation became dangerous, never try to fight to avoid a counter punch).
Remember Scott vs Chisora was very controversial because Scott beat the count but the referee end the fight. If Ortiz has fought Scott with the same referee than Chisora then he certainly won by KO on the 4th round.
- Allen: Ortiz dominated the fight and won with a knock out when Whyte was not able to knock out the guy and won only with an unanimous decision. Yes, Ortiz was better than Whyte against Allen.
The question isn't if Ortiz is good or not (in fact he's good) but if Ortiz has a better resume than Pulev and seems more dangerous and more eligible for a world title shot.
And the answer yes, if you watch the last few years Ortiz has a large better resume than Pulev.
