Lomachenko
Re: Lomachenko
Ya, strange to act like that fight hurts his standing.
Re: Lomachenko
If he fights Mikey at 135 in the next year he will get torn up.crusader wrote:He was toying with him and didnt lose 15 seconds of that fight. Punishment? He got hit with pretty much nothing meaningful. Hes just one of those guys who marks up.

He definitely got hit. A right hand caught him clean.gilgamesh wrote:Yeah the only damage to his face came from headbutts from what I could tell. Re: Lomachenko
I like Mikey there too, but not at all because of tonight
Re: Lomachenko
Ok...he got hit with a right hand. So he should never fight a dangerous opponent?lookingaround87 wrote:He definitely got hit. Re: Lomachenko
As good as he is, fights like that leave me cold. Tapping him on the head and stuff? I've no time for it, I'd rather him just get him out of there several rounds earlier.
Re: Lomachenko
Whatever. He was not impressive, imo. He missed a lot and took too many flush shots. He showboated at times and Marriaga busted him in the chops.crusader wrote:Ya, strange to act like that fight hurts his standing.
The outcome was never in doubt but that was the case from the moment this was announced.
Re: Lomachenko
Ya, and its not like he got floored by a right in the way Mikey did against Martinez.gilgamesh wrote:Ok...he got hit with a right hand. So he should never fight a dangerous opponent?lookingaround87 wrote:He definitely got hit. A right hand caught him clean.gilgamesh wrote:

Omg he got hit a few times!!!
Re: Lomachenko
Yeah. As a fighter it certainly wouldn't be my personal demeanor in there. No matter how overwhelmingly better I was than my opponent all that would ever translate to is me finishing them earlier. I'd always be all business, all the time. My favorite fighters usually are guys like that.Covfefe wrote:As good as he is, fights like that leave me cold. Tapping him on the head and stuff? Marriaga landed very little of note. This is like that time where you said Dimitrenko was lighting up ParkerTanzio wrote:Whatever. He was not impressive, imo. Re: Lomachenko
Of course he should. He should fight Berchelt.gilgamesh wrote:Ok...he got hit with a right hand. So he should never fight a dangerous opponent?lookingaround87 wrote:He definitely got hit. A right hand caught him clean.gilgamesh wrote:

Re: Lomachenko
He was plenty impressive. This fight doesn't raise or lower his profile though. It was just another chance for people to see him. He's still in the same place rankings wise he was heading into the fight, there's just more people that got a chance to see and know about him now. That's all tonight was about.Tanzio wrote:Whatever. Re: Lomachenko
I'd be down with that. I'd be down with him fighting Mikey Garcia too. He's got a ton of options.Tanzio wrote:Of course he should. He should fight Berchelt.gilgamesh wrote:Ok...he got hit with a right hand. So he should never fight a dangerous opponent?lookingaround87 wrote:

Re: Lomachenko
For the record. The Tapping on the head thing Loma does, I don't care for, but I was amused at the moment he backed himself into a corner and dared Marriaga to come in and attack him. I've never seen that before.
Re: Lomachenko
I would prefer he clean out 130 prior to going after Mikey. I absolutely believe that Mikey pummels him into submission at 135 at this point.gilgamesh wrote:I'd be down with that. It's a 50/50 matchup to me him vs Mikey.Tanzio wrote:I would prefer he clean out 130 prior to going after Mikey. 130 is one of the deepest divisions in the sport right now though so I don't disagree with your statement that you'd rather see him clean out 130 first. 130 is deep, and the challengers just under Vasyl are deserving of their shot.

Lomassiah got nailed hard playing that game in the corner.gilgamesh wrote:For the record. The Tapping on the head thing Loma does, I don't care for, but I was amused at the moment he backed himself into a corner and dared Marriaga to come in and attack him. I've never seen that before.
Btw, Stephen A Smith is embarrassing as a boxing analyst.

Re: Lomachenko
Refresh my memory. Why couldn't he get fights with Frampton or Santa cruz?

I think Mikey is a 70-30 pick v Lomassiah at 135 at this moment. Mikey would likely TKO him.
Re: Lomachenko
Are bizarre assertions like that very hard to remember? I must have a much better memory than you
I agree that Mikey probably wins, but to act like this fight hurt Loma's standing is odd. He was on the front foot and goofing around against an opponent who was obviously way out of their depth. He hardly took any notable shots and never looked troubled, certainly not like Mikey did when Martinez floored him. But omg he got hit a couple times! And by a right hand!
Loma didnt play around like that against guys like Walters and Russell. He seems to know the right context for it, and I dont think this fight tells us anything new. Boxing is littered with examples of fighters taking it easy in mismatches and then stepping it up for bigger fights...

Re: Lomachenko
100%. Just like his compatriot Vitali Klitschko. Look at Vitali's face after Kevin Johnson fight, who barely landed a couple of jabs in that fight. Marriaga at least landed one good punch, Johnson didn'tcrusader wrote:He was toying with him and didnt lose 15 seconds of that fight. Punishment? He got hit with pretty much nothing meaningful. Re: Lomachenko
I liked Lomachenko's effort against Gary Russell more than this fight. Maybe the weight was better for him. He seemed sharper, smoother, faster, and he didn't do any shenanigans. He fought an extremely clean, intense, 12-round effort against probably the 2nd best Featherweight in the world at that time and the best right now.
I didn’t like the showmanship. That's Sugar Ray Leonard and Zab Judah kind of stuff. In his first 6 or 7 fights Vasyl rarely did anything like that. I remember Ray Leonard showboating against Hearns and getting dropped. I remember Nate Campbell showboating against Robbie Peden and getting knocked cold. I don’t mind a little flash and showmanship if it’s in great taste. There’s a fine line.

Re: Lomachenko
Whether you like the showmanship or not, you'll watch the next time he fights. There might be a few people who are drawn to that sorta thing, and the people that REALLY don't like it will be rooting for him to get decked because of it, but they'll still watch.
Re: Lomachenko
Exactly. Lomas number one goal right now is to put people into seats and behind TV Screens, ragardless whether they are fans or haters.gilgamesh wrote:Whether you like the showmanship or not, you'll watch the next time he fights. Re: Lomachenko
I am taking Marriaga as say active fight. He need to fight Berchelt, Davis or at least Corrales this year
