Dillian Whyte To Face Malcolm Tann on Crawford-Indongo

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

BS.com has been advised that heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte will face Malcolm Tann on August 19th on the Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo undercard. Crawford and Indongo will have all 5 major belts on the line and the winner will become the undisputed champion in the super lightweight division.

The 29-year-old Whyte, who last fought in December when he edged out Dereck Chisora in a Fight of the Year candidate, was originally going to face faded former title contender Michael Grant. The same Grant many will remember faced Lennox Lewis 17 years ago.

Those plans were scrapped when the fight received heavy scrutiny for being a mismatch.

Tann (24-5, 13 KOs) is a Phoenix, Arizona based 15 year pro who has faced the likes of Chris Arreola and Alexander Dimitrenko.

Easy win for Whyte. Won't advance his standing in my eyes an inch.

Malcolm Tann is no better than Michael Grant. At least Michael Grant is a has-been (as in has been a World title challenger). Tann is a never-was.

Tann is past his prime, and I don't think ever cracked the Top 30 even at his peak. I saw Tann's first 2 fights on TV, and don't recall seeing him again after that. I know his career basically didn't go anywhere noteworthy.

Should've kept it as Whyte vs. Grant. At least he was more known..

I don't think he fought on Tuesday Night Fights. Not if you're referring to USA Tuesday Night Fights which I think you are.

Malcolm Tann was JUST knocked out in 4 rounds by a 10-0 opponent not even 2 months ago. After 2007 he didn't fight again until 2016 where he came back and beat a 9-0 opponent.

That win and the KO loss are the only fights he's had in the last 10 years.

Terrible.
US exposure and on a huge card ( well I'm looking forward to the main event at least) and his opponent is Tann??
I had a quick look at Tann's Boxrec page. 39th in the US...
This devalues the card in my opinion. It also devalues Whyte. Even as a stay busy fight, it's way below any value.

I was, I remember seeing his pro debut and they were hyping the hell out of him. Saw his first several fights, he was boring as hell. Maybe it was fox. I know it was ages ago.

Yeah it was on Fox Sports I think. I remember his first fight as well. It was over a dude named Jack Beard. Don't know why it sticks out in my mind, it just does. A lot of sh*t from my early days of Boxing fandom is much more clear in my memory than things from recent years. After a while it all just starts to become a jumble.

That guy doesn't look to have a particularly impressive physique either, and I've never heard anything about him.

That reminds me of a fight you may have never seen. My dad let me stay up to watch it after the news. Bruce curry vs Monroe Brooks. Epic war for anyone looking for one.

So he's against a guy who's fought twice in 10 years? With one of the fights being a KO loss to a 10 fight novice? I can't wait for this one!

Ah, so you mean it is far down the card and not part of the international televised package?

Meh, don't know what people were expecting tbh. He was never gonna get a decent opponent on a Top Rank card.

It's just kind of funny that it's worded like this is some big step up on Grant, and that they brought in Tann for the fans.

Yeah. As I've mentioned if anything this is a step down from Grant, which is just monumentally pathetic.

I'm sure it will be on the international package. That doesn't generate us exposure. I don't know why ESPN doesn't show that Stevenson, Jennings, Walters and Alvarado.

Well, less terrible, but I still prefere to see Mansour, which would also be a much more logic fight, since he's ranked much higher, but Mansour is probably to good, I can understand Whyte doesn't prefere to fight him.

Whyte seem to have a bit of Paul Smith syndrome .

I deserve a world title fight even though I have done f*ck all to get one.

Still move deserving than Smigga though.
