Erislandy Lara

Post by diddy »

Really is a shame how avoided this guy is. What a waste. Really a terrific boxer and a top 10 p4p fighter who doesn't have an actual loss to his name. Williams sure as hell didn't beat him. 60 of the 94 or 95 or whatever it was boxing experts polled had him beating or drawing with Canelo.

Yet no one has him on a p4p list. He's basically been blackballed at this point. He's rotting away at this point and can't get a fight.

Lara is in my top ten pound for pound. If he would have got the decision against Canelo, then Canelo would not have the lofty status that he has.

Apparently he isn't interested in fighting Andrade? That would be a good fight. (Lara mentions he already beat that ass, in the amateurs about 10 years ago) Guess that settles it.

He isn't interested in fighting Charlos either, as allegedly they are his buddies. Not calling out Jacobs or even Quillin which would be easy to make. Lara himself clearly likes to fight mediocre opposition.

Me too, I just don't see how a guy who continuously does nothing is the one being avoided. They're both PBC, that's more of the issue. those guys all sit around.

89 media scores. 34 for Alvarez, 30 for Lara, 25 for draw. IMO Alvarez won that fight.

http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/opinion ... -showdown/

Avoided? why isnt he fighting Charlos, Lubin, Andrade? Martyrosian is only solid name on his resume since Canelo fight.

I can apprecitiate technician counterpunchers like Mayweather or Rigondeaux, but Lara is simply boring. If i wanna see black man running all night i prefer Mo Farah. :box: :box: :box:

As good as he is. He is boring. I dont support boring boxers. I watch boxing for action, if i want to sleep i watch a silent black and white film.

I don't consider him to be that avoided. Martirosyan, Alvarez, Trout, Angulo, Williams, and Molina were all willing to step up to the plate. Ultimately, there are very few truly avoided fighters. There are only fighters who make their own fate and fighters who avoid challenges.

The junior middleweight division needs a tournament. Badly. Get these guys in the ring with each other. 168 and cruiser are doing it. Someone put the money up.

Every division needs a tournament if we're being honest.

Next year will be two more as long as it's successful. 168 was a bad choice this year.

SMW tournament is good as an elimination for Zurdo, DeGale or Golovkin.

147 tourney: Thurman, Spence, Porter, Pacquaio, Horn, Garcia, Crawford, Brook

How awesome would this be?

154 tourney: Jermell, Andrade, Trout, Lara, Hurd, Lubin, Liam Smith, J Williams

160 tourney: GGG, Canelo, Jacobs, Jermall, Lemiuex, Deveryanchenko, Saunders, Korobov

Really hard to find an 8th guy at 160.

Obviously the 147 tourney isnt gonna happen. 160 probably wont either. 154 is the best hope.

There is an article that gathered 89 media scorecards and only 33% of them thought that Lara deserved the win:
• Ryan Burton (BS) : 116-112 Canelo
• All About Boxing : 115-113 Canelo
• Phil D Jay (WorldBoxingNews) : 116-112 Canelo
• The Boxing Expert : 115-113 Canelo
• Danny Flexen (Boxing News) : 117-113 Canelo
• Adam Abramowitz (Saturday Night Boxing) : 115-113 Canelo
• David Greisman (BS) : 115-113 Canelo
• Lance Pugmire (LA Times) : 115-113 Canelo
• Daniel Vano (Checkhookboxing) : 115-114 Canelo
• Steve Bunce (allegedly TV) : 115-113 Canelo
• Matt Knowles (3MoreRounds) : 116-112 Canelo
• Rich Marotta (KFI Radio) : 115-113 Canelo
• Pro Boxing Fans Jake : 115-113 Canelo
• Dan Rafael (ESPN) : 116-112 Canelo
• Martin Gallegas (The Boxing Channel) : 115-113 Canelo
• Ryan Bivins (Sweetboxing) : 115-113 Canelo
• FightersRated : 115-114 Canelo
• Doug Fischer (Ring Magazine) : 115-113 Canelo
• Kevin McRae (Bleacher Report) : 115-113 Canelo
• Fightnews : 115-113 Canelo
• Max Kellerman (HBO) : 115-113 Canelo
• Fight Ghost : 115-113 Canelo
• Boxing Chat : 116-114 Canelo
• Ernest Gabion (Everlast) : 115-113 Canelo
• Stephen St John (Sports Radio 810 WHB) : 115-113 Canelo
• Graham Houston (Boxing Monthly) : 116-112 Canelo
• Tom Gray (Ring Magazine) : 116-113 Canelo
• The Sweet Science : 115-113 Canelo
• Mario Mungia (ThaBoxingVoice) : 115-114 Canelo
• Iconic Boxing : 115-113 Canelo
• John Evans (LiveFight) : 115-113 Canelo
• Bryan Kenny (Showtime TV) : 116-112 Canelo
• Steve Adams Jnr (Punchperfectpugilism) : 116-113 Canelo
• Ciaran Shanks (Irvine Times) :115-113 Canelo
• Norm Frauenheim (Ring Magazine) : 116-114 Canelo
• Jeffrey Freeman (KODigest.TV) : 115-113 Canelo
• Andreas Hale (KnockoutNation.com) : 115-113 Canelo
• Diego Morilla (XN Sports) : 115-113 Canelo
• Kenny Porter (Trainer) : 116-112 Canelo
• Abel Sanchez (Trainer) : 115-113 Canelo
• Anson Wainwright (Ring Magazine) : 115-113 Canelo

Also, if you aggregate all three official judge’s round-by-round scorecards for the Canelo-Lara bout, they concur with Steve Farhood’s (Showtime) scores for ten of the twelve rounds.

The official judges awarded rounds nine and eleven to Canelo, whereas the Showtime broadcaster gave them to Lara. And if you watch those rounds, they’re difficult to score.

And 38% thought Canelo deserved the win. You're offering semantics. Point remains, it was highly disputed decision.

I remember when ferg demanded a Paul Smith-Abraham rematch on the basis of the scores in the first fight, but an expert poll posted to Boxing News Online (also the source of the Canelo-Lara poll) had 59 percent of scores for AA and only 18 for Smith. He conveniently brushed those aside, while acting like 38 percent of 'experts' scoring for Canelo meant a clear victory and no need for a rematch. The little guy conveniently picks and chooses which numbers matter. Canelo-Lara was a super close fight and going by that poll neither boxer was that close to winning the fight on more than half the cards. If it were converted into a decision, it would be a majority draw...

Lara is very good, but his career has definitely gotten boring. I mean, Yuri Foreman? WTF?!?
