The GOATs of Boxing by State, Region, Country

Post by USMCer »

Who are the Greatest of All-Time Boxers by place of birth?

It's going to take some research, but let see if collectively we can fill the list...

Notes:
Name in red = the GOAT of that category/subcategory
r. = where they were raised, if different than where they were born
Multiple names per category = listed in order of GOAT-ness

***Work in progress - Using BoxRec ratings as default/preliminary order***

North West England, Hatton & Conteh were mentioned, What about Tyson Fury?

Ok, admittedly Hatton was Ring magazine champion for a while at light-welter. But he only collected two of the main belts in the division whilst Fury was Ring magazine champion at Heavyweight (the glamour division) & collected three of the main belts there. :TU:

Someone also mentioned Joe Calzaghe for Wales, which you would kind of agree with - and I hate to be picky, but he was actually born in Hammersmith in London

This is a bit of a challenge, but this is BoxRec isn't it?

I imagine that there are a lot of Boxing aficionados from around the world with opinions on the matter on here.

For those who are down, post your picks, lets see if we can get a general consensus, and I'll edit the OPs to add the names to the list.

:TU:

P.S.
Remember, it's by PLACE OF BIRTH.

It would be far quicker for you to ask someone employed by BoxRec to write an SQL query on their fight list database, where they could stipulate filters that take into account things like number of world title fights, longevity of title reign, amount of four/five star bouts, win/loss record and also the highest rated points for world title bouts.

From the resulting list of fighters (grouped per locale), the forum should then be in a position to very easily determine/vote the “GOAT’s by state, region, country.”

Otherwise, the info. being requested in this thread is far too taxing and time-consuming to acquire.

Most iconic punch to come from Cuba, but probably not the greatest.

I was there in 2007 and remember having a debate with a guy who was saying Savon would have beat Tyson. Also, Cassamayor was quite popular back then too!
