Can a boxer or family member/friend beat himself?
Can a boxer or family member/friend beat himself?
Lets say i got prime jones jr kind of skills and i fight degale for 2 million. Can i or somebody of my family or friend bet on my fight. End up with 2,5+ in the pocket.
Imagine you have GGG kind of power and basicly go for the rd you want your opponent out, at least try and habe a high chance.

I don't think you can bet on yourself, but you could obviously give money to a friend or family member. So yes.

Didn't David Haye bet on himself against Harrison?
Re: Can a boxer or family member/friend beat himself?
You could give money to a friend to bet AGAINST you for that matter. For your own good, and there's though you better be damn sure not many people KNOW that you're friends or know each other.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I don't think you can bet on yourself, but you could obviously give money to a friend or family member. Would be pretty hard to keep something like that under wraps these days.
They probably always break out the microscope for suspiciously huge bets.

It's not allowed, even when you predict yourself to win.
But with friends and things like that hard to proof, so barely anyone get's punished for it.
Many times it's even a fair bet, they genuinly don't know the answer for sure beforehand.

I friend or family member definitely can, but if Roger Mayweather bets 50 million on McGregor by KO1 and it happens, you're not going to collect.

If thurman fights c level opponent and tells his cousin "i am going to do my best to ko the guy inside 1"
Ans the cousin bets 1 million on thurman ko1. And it happens, does he than get the cash or not.

Hypothetically, I would think so. Realistically, nobody would take a bet that large on a fight like that.Jip wrote:In theory.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Nobody would take that bet.Jip wrote:

I've heard Amir Khan beats himself and apparently you can watch if you're on his skype.

To bet on yourself to win is one thing; that is what you are supposed to be doing after all.
To bet on yourself to win in a particular round or in a particular way is another. I seem to remember Haye claimed he had bet on himself to win in the third against Audley Harrison, which was a touch annoying to those who had bet on him to win in the first and then watched him do literally nothing for 2 rounds.
If you bet on anything you have direct influence over you are treading extremely dodgy ground.

Re: Can a boxer or family member/friend beat himself?
The only thing wrong about a boxer placing a bet on himself is if it's about something that he can heavily influence, such as losing or taking a dive during a particular round. Where a fighter intentionally performs poorly for future financial gain, which is illegal.
If a boxer bets on himself to defeat his opponent, then the person he is facing can prevent this prediction from becoming a reality. So there's nothing wrong with that, since the fighter that placed the bet has to perform optimally in order to gain a victory.
In the former scenario, the events and outcome of the fight have been predetermined by the person who placed the illegal bet. This is not the case in the latter scenario.
