Leaked Footage: Anyone Else Impressed or Is It Just Me?

Post by caldo2025 »

I'm sure that Dana White was very selective about what footage was released to the public but I can't help it...i'm impressed with what I saw Conor doing. Was it a knockdown? Was it not a knockdown? Who cares? That's not the point. The point is that he looked at home and like he belonged inside the ring with a "legit" boxer. "Legit" is all that i'll give Paulie for credentials because i've never been impressed or a fan of his style.

Looking good against an overweight retired boxer that never had any pop or right hand doesn't mean he'll compete with Floyd but I was still impressed. I've always been a sucker for underdogs so i'm not sure if that's at work here or if Conor really has some boxing ability that will make this an intriguing fight for however long it lasts. What do you think? Am i overreacting?

As Jeff Mayweather put it, knockdown or not, it exposed his trash. Not that Conor isn't a great MMA practitioner. But, against Mayweather, that technique is going to get him stopped.

My co worker is a Conor fan. Not an MMA fan, a Conor fan. He keeps telling me that Conor is going to KO Mayweather. I might be going to his house to watch the fight as he is definitely purchasing it. It's going to be amusing watching his disappointment after the fight starts.

Connor looks like a guy in a toughman contest.
No skill what so ever. Slow wide punches. Holding behind opponent head while hitting. Slow as molasses.
I was giving him at least a punches chance as slim as that could of been. Now I think he has less than zero chance to win.
Pure garbage

I didn't watch it, I know what Conor brings to the table. If you expected him to be completely clueless I imagine you'd be impressed.

The only punch he could throw was a straight left.

It's trivial to cherrypick footage., especially when Paulie was so out of shape he probbly needed to have a fair amount of down time mid spar.

Specifically a counter left off of his back foot is his only world class Boxing punch. Great timing on it. Floyd most certainly knows this and won't be anywhere in the vicinity of it.

At least you will enjoy the undercard. Your mate might view the main "event" differently after watching some proper boxing first?

I am impressed.

Conor has a very good pop in his punches and the left is powerful. Does he looked uncontrolled and open to counters would he step inside a ring against a good boxer, sure he would. Its sad that he fights floyd, cause ALL fight of floyd ate boring cause he will AGAIN RUN. He did it 100 times before and this time he ll do it again.

Conor is a good puncher who goes forward, a fight with spence, thurman, canelo or GGG would be 100 times more fun to watch. They would go at it and hurt each other and not run to a boring ud or tko fliyd because conor gasses after all the chasing etc....

This will be one of the most exciting Floyd fights in a while. The first couple rounds may be tentative on his part. But, as soon as he gets Conor's rhythm, it's nighty night McGregor.

The video isn't supposed to prove that Conor is better than Malinaggi.

Brief recap of what lead to the video: Conor posted a pic where he was standing over a downed Malinaggi which is classless as it disrespects the sparring partner. Malinaggi obviously replied to it with a rant of how he wasn't floored, but shoved and how he was outclassing Conor.

White then released the video of this one disputed scene where Conor claimed a knockdown and Malinaggi a shove. The video proves that Conor scored a knockdown and that Malinaggi wasn't pushed down.

That's it. Nothing else. In terms of Conor's qualities it only proves that he isn't outclassed by Malinaggi during the entire sparring session. If I spent 30 minutes in the ring with Malinaggi you couldn't film 20 seconds of me looking good. These videos at least seem to show that Conor isn't completely clueless.

Does it mean that he stands a chance against Mayweather? Of course not. He doesn't even stand a puncher's chance because Mayweather is no Michael Moorer or Tommy Morrison, you don't knock Mayweather out with a lucky punch. Conor obviously also doesn't have a chance to win on points, not a chance in hell. The fight will either end with a 120-108 scorecard or a mid to late KO by Mayweather. I'm a huge MMA fan and I love Conor, but come on. This is not a competitive fight. This will be the boxing equivalent of Randy Couture vs. James Toney.

I'd say the video does show him pushing Paulie down, or at least leaning an arm on his head.

If I had one wish it would be that all of the "do you think McGregor has a chance based on scripted press releases, orchestrated media appearances and edited sparring footage" could be merged into one giant thread...I think there must be about 50 threads on this fight which after three posts all descend into the same conversation.

I think he's refering to how both are edited. McGregor is actually more dishonest than Zelenoff in terms of editing.

What we know for sure from the sparring is that Paulie face was puffy swollen/bruised in the aftermath while McG was unmarked, and that Paulie got tired while McGregor didn't(based off footage).

I follow MMA as well as boxing so i've always known McG is one of the more athletic UFC fighters and probably more athletic than many active boxers, and a precise striker who relies on timing and accuracy.

Still i think Mayweather will win, but athleticism + timing/accuracy can take you really far especially in boxing.

Doesn't really surprise or impress me that a guy like this in his prime could get the better of Paulie, it did look like those 2 lefts back to back did hurt Paulie a little though.

Let's put things into perspective shall we?

Paulie sparred with McGregor for at least twenty rounds, with Malignaggi being a past-his-prime out-of-shape retired boxer... and Conor's team are only confident enough to release a couple of carefully-selected tiny snippets of the Irishman in action, with the sole intention to flatter the UFC fighters pugilistic skills.

Team McGregor flatly-refuse to publish videos showing the entirety of both sparring sessions, which (for me at least) clearly indicates their distinct lack of confidence to showcase Conor's highly-flawed novice boxing ability.

We cannot possibly learn anything from watching the two videos published by Team McGregor... other than their desperate attempts to keep Conor in the media spotlight.

McG clearly looked tired to me in the 'knockdown' clip. He was slow and looked very arm weary....
