It's sad to see how Price's career has plummeted from him being the so-called next big thing to now been seen as a washed up fighter who isn't even British level.

Looking back, Thompson was a very poor piece of match-making. I can see the logic behind it at the time in that he'd been in with Klitschko twice in the recent past and had performed well against him in the first fight but looked to be past his best and therefore on paper they should he was a good scalp and a relatively easy night's work. However, Thompson was levels above anything Price had ever been in with before and was a canny operator who could also bang.

Those Thompson defeats effectively signalled the end of Price's career in my view as they completely destroyed his confidence. I actually think he has fairly decent tools as a fighter but his confidence is now so shot that he's almost beating himself before he goes in the ring.

They really jumped the gun with the rematch. Should have taken 3 steps back after the initial loss. That probably didn't hurt him too much mentally, the second one clubbed him.

That will be interesting.
It was pretty close, I think with a more consistent work rate the result could be different. I really thought Mr Rino had that fight until half way through, then all the eye catching shots came from Thomas when most expected him to fade.
Look forward to it, here's hoping it happens. You don't always get a shot at redemption.

Big price just didnt have it in the end. Still should be proud of himself...olympian etc and had a decent run at pro. Could also argue the first two guys that beat him had questionmarks over drug testing etc.

I dont really blame the matchmaking. Franks biggest mistake was not bridging the gap between audley harrisons and tony thompson. But looking back thompson was about 40 years old. Looked like he was on the slide and ready for the taking. Tbf he kind of was. And price had dealt with the guys without any problems whatsoever. No one really thought thompson was a massive threat at the time. A test but no one really thought it would end like that. It was a soft punch that finished it one that people thought was a fluke at the time. Looking back it wasnt a fluke tho...price just had too many flaws. Weather thompson exposed them or not...someone was gonna again sooner or later. Probably should have had a couple of confidence buildrrs before thompson 2. But again...he should have already had all the confidence in the world the first time round. They would have just prolonged the inevitable. He,d be better out the game altogether tho. Cant be good for him getting mocked like he has. Hes took too long out between fights now to ever overcome his deficiencies. They should have had price on an early mike tyson schedule. Knocking c level guys out building up the confidence etc. Instead hes just slowly killing time...waiting for a big fight he,ll inevitably lose.

Either get busy or get out. Thats the options he should be looking at

I have a lot of respect for the Price, Khans & Maccarinelli's of this world.

I was going to post pretty much the same thing you did. I suspect that had Price stopped Thompson in the 2nd fight we may have actually seen the Price v Fury fight that everyone was so excited about at the time as Klitschko was tied up with the Povetkin fight (think that took place in October 2013) and once Haye pulled out of the Fury fight that may have left the way open.

He looked petrified when he attended a Wladimir stadium fight. This was just before his Skelton fight I think and he was being built up as a future opponent. "I need more experience before fighting on this stage" etc. I think his confidence was done at amateur level when he was getting Starched by the camarelles and stivernes. I think he spoke about taking a hiding from Pulev too. Not sure if that was an amateur fight or just sparring

They sparred as amateurs and again and before the Sexton fight in 2012 when Price said: “We sparred a lot in the amateurs. Before the 2008 Olympics, we did a lot of sparring and he would get on top of me so I wanted to go back and see where I was now. It was a good gauge. We did five spars in all and each one was different and one day I would get the better of him, and the next he would have it more his own way.”

I like David Price and if he wants to continue then he should.
I agree with the poster who said 'just get in and go for the fastest KO possible'.
He has monstrous power and a boxer trying to deal with that flying at him will have enough to do defensively that it will massively reduce the offence coming back at Price.

I think for a card without the backing of Hearn or Warren it's shaping up nicely, and Sunderland's own Isaac Macleod faces Danny Craven in a the latest addition. This is unbeaten prospect vs unbeaten prospect, I don't know much about Craven but he's being matched well very earlier in his career as 'Can Bang' is an 8-0 welter, 2 KO's. He's also a junior amateur standout, with gold in the Europeans and silver in the Worlds.

His career has been marred by inactivity but there's no doubting there's great potential within him, I hope people take notice of this fight, and I certainly hope it's televised.
