Top boxers that need to retire
Top boxers that need to retire
This year has been a big one for boxing retirements. Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Robert Guerrero, Wladimir Klitschko, James Toney, Alsenmo Moreno and Cotto all retiring in 2017. I read somewhere that Fernando Montiel was retiring this year as well. What are some other boxers who should retire or their retirement has been long over due? My top ones are Roy Jones, Zab Judah, Juan Manuel Lopez, Antonio Margarito, and Christian Mijares.

Manny Pacquiao, Tomasz Adamek, Jean Pascal (though he is not that old), Arthur Abraham, maybe Steve Cunningham too - that names came to my mind firsthalfamill wrote:This year has been a big one for boxing retirements. I agree with those. Those who are really close, have at most two fights left in my opinion...are David Haye, Martin Murray even though hes coming off a "win", i didnt watch the fight though but have seen recent ones, I also think Amir Khan should retire very soon, I belive he's had significant head trauma in his career, in terms of being concussed multiple times. He said something about the maidana fight not long ago, a fight where he wasn't KOed, that he couldn't remember things that night and the next couple days. Then look at the fights he's hand post that.dagilechia wrote:Manny Pacquiao, Tomasz Adamek, Jean Pascal (though he is not that old), Arthur Abraham, maybe Steve Cunningham too - that names came to my mind firsthalfamill wrote:This year has been a big one for boxing retirements. Antonio Tarver.
Re: Top boxers that need to retire
He's not a Top boxer anymore, but Shannon Briggs needs to call it a career.
Re: Top boxers that need to retire
Chris Algeri.
He has not fought for a year but has not officially retired. Still talks of coming back and shouldn't.
Lucas Browne.
He is getting old and can't get a top fight to advance. Shame he never got the chance, but I can't see it happening. And if it did I feel he would take a real beat down.
I also agree with all of the other fighters mentioned so far in this thread.

Re: Top boxers that need to retire
Mike Alvarado just fought a week or two ago. There's probably not much left in the sport for him.
Brandon Rios and Victor Ortiz I think need to just fight each other if they insist on continuing and then retire. The "grudge match" between the two of them is really the only thing of interest either one of them has left.
Maybe they could milk it for 2 or 3 fights, but after that I wouldn't care to see 'em anymore.

Malignaggi still hasn't called it a career yet, he should
Roy Jones Jr. should have ages ago, still hasn't as far as I know.

Re: Top boxers that need to retire
After he gets knocked out in 1 or 2 rounds by Dillian Whyte here in a few days Malcolm Tann needs to hang 'em up for good. He already hung 'em up for nearly 10 years once already, next time they need to stay hung up.

Yamanaka

Sam Solimon
Re: Top boxers that need to retire
Anthony Mundine and Danny Green. Of course Chavez Jr should also retire, he has no desire, he doesn't care for winning or training, we all know this is true as he was picked by team Canelo...to fight Canelo.
Re: Top boxers that need to retire
Same goes for Danny Williams, but more so.gilgamesh wrote:He's not a Top boxer anymore, but Shannon Briggs needs to call it a career.
Although I suspect he may just be travelling round Europe leaning on people for a few rounds by mutual arrangement and getting paid for it, in which case he can carry on.

Re: Top boxers that need to retire
wow there are a lot of them as I agree, more or less, with every mentioned fighter so far.
i would also like to add Albert Sosnowski (even if he is not really a top boxer and never was) as he looks like a paralytic in the ring right now.

That is the only point in them continuing. That fight needs to happen right now.

Rios looked good in his recent fight. He just needs to stay in his lane, kid is young.Naandrew wrote:gilgamesh wrote:Mike Alvarado just fought a week or two ago. There's probably not much left in the sport for him.

I would like to see him get beat a few more times. He is still fairly young and needs the money. Plus it's a good measuring stick for up and coming fighters.Enlightened-One wrote:Adrien Broner? He doesn't appear to care less anymore.
